Posted by autumnleaf > 2014-11-14 20:26 | Report Abuse

Getting cheap but not sure when to enter. Don't quite like the chart's sharp downward trend for the past half a year. Maybe should just close eye and keep for dividend's sake...

the only thing supporting padini's high price in the past is because of rosy dividends. otherwise, dont have so high hopes. they better announce dividend soon. or else this company will face a price correction further.

no1 talks about the fundamental anymore? I noticed the cash flow largely reduced compared to last year, anyone can shed some light here? Is it mainly because of the inventories proceed?

Chong, thank you for your detailed analysis, that's a very good piece of work! Noticed Total assets and Total liabilities have gone up a lot compared to FY2013, Hopefully Padini can generate more earnings soon following its investment in expansions aggressively. :)

share buy back - if shareholders approve this resolution, then it will give the management the discretion to trigger share buy back up the the limit stated in the resolution. normally is to reduce floating shares in the market with the intention to jack up the EPS figure. i think most companies also feel the pinch on weaker consumer spending and higher operating cost, so their management are already using this strategy to make the figures looks nicer. just my 2 cents. any readers like to comment further?

aiyo share buy back mandate is quite common. Most companies have a resolution for share buy back in their AGM but whether they actually invoke it to buy back shares during the same financial year is another question.

seem to me a very good price to go in now. I agreed on LC Chong analysis. The big potential is his point v, when it's back to syariah compliance list.

This Friday will announce shariah-compliance list and Padini mostly one of them.
Should be good catalyst.

aikwais, the way you regard shariah-compliance as a catalyst is laughable and naive at best. Where was Padini trading before shariah-compliance? Do you think our muslim funds will suddenly start buying Padini when the non-compliance is uplifted?

Flintstones, glad I could entertain your day.
I do not know if our Muslim funds will start buying but I do know they have a choice.
Been holding this long ago as my good defensive dividend stock. No worry for me.

Airways: I share the same view as yours. The determination factor is if Padini is a value buy at the current price in their eyes. If so, they would buy once Padini is included into the list and therefore the shariah compliance is a catalyst.
Enjoy the upcoming dividend.

Repost #2 from 15th October

The only thing that is keeping this ship afloat is the high dividend yield. For a low growth (may I say declining?) business like Padini, it is worth 10x PE at most. My TP for Padini is RM 1.4X or a minimum 15% downside. Believe it or not, once Padini's dividend is cut in the next financial year, the stock will tank below my TP of RM 1.4X. I wont explain why Padini's dividend will be cut. As a responsible investor, you should do your own diligent.

To the buffett wannabes here, I must say, be careful of what you wish for. I know this post is going to get a lot of sticks. But I am seeing many new investors making newbie mistakes on this stock and I am here to give them some light. I will be back once Padini hits RM 1.4X.

The Proposed Share Buy (up to 10%) - is expected to likely benefit the Company and its
shareholders as follows:-
(i) Where the Directors resolve to cancel the Purchased Shares, the EPS of Padini Group is
expected to be enhanced as a result of the reduction in the issued and paid-up share capital of the
Company as described in Section 5 on “Effects” of the Proposed Share Buy-Back, thereby
enabling long term and genuine investors to enjoy any potential corresponding increase in the
value of their investments in the Company;
(ii) Where the Purchased Shares bought back are retained as Treasury Shares, the Directors would
have an option to distribute these Purchased Shares as share dividends to reward shareholders;
(iii) The Purchased Shares may be held as Treasury Shares and resold in the open market to reap
potential capital appreciation of the Shares without affecting the total issued and paid-up share
capital of the Company; and
(iv) The Company may be able to reduce any unwarranted volatility of its Shares and assist to
stabilize the supply, demand and price of its Shares in the open market, thereby supporting the
fundamental value of its Shares.

Still can't run away from the fact that business is getting worse, lower sales, higher costs....Fundamentally it's getting weaker.

In the short term the business might not look good, due to operations cost and increasing price-sensitive population, but I believe the business is still sustainable in the longer term. The fundamentals remain intact.
