Seeking quick wins won’t work in Industry 4.0

Aware of the competitive value technology now drives — and the pressure to keep up with rivals — most executives set aside sizable budgets and resources to prepare their organization to transition into the age of Industry 4.0.

In this era, businesses are frequently investing to ‘get by’ and maintain pace with rivals, but few are seeing real returns from their digital investments. According to a new report that surveyed more than 2,000 C-suite global executives, issues, on the hole, likely come down to a lack of long-term planning.

While most organizations possess the capabilities required to thrive in Industry 4.0, a significant number of them do not have a complete grasp of what going digital entails, the technologies involved, and how to keep the momentum going. In fact, things are looking pretty scattered.

Ad-hoc approaches
According to the report, just 10 percent said that they had a comprehensive, long-term strategy in approaching Industry 4.0. Nearly half (47 percent) of respondents, meanwhile, said that Industry 4.0 was approached in an ad-hoc manner, and 21 percent do not have a formal strategy in place.

The problem is, that all too often organizations are building strategies around short-term gains at the expense of long-term returns, and they aren’t leveraging technologies boldly across all business operations. But survey data shows that organizations with holistic strategies are primed to do much better.

For example, 73 percent of organizations with a disciplined approach to strategy expressed confidence in surviving disruption, greatly surpassing those that have no or ad-hoc Industry 4.0 strategies (13 and 12 percent respectively).

They also benefit financially — approximately 90 percent reported a 5 percent annual revenue growth over the past year. Ultimately, myopic business mindsets have no place in Industry 4.0.

A wide-angle view
Leaders have to look beyond immediate profit when it comes to leveraging technology and pursue wider disruption in their own industries or organization, rather than just to drive high revenues and reduce costs in one area of the business.

That said, though, healthy market competition doesn’t mean industry members can’t benefit mutually from open innovation. Communication and information sharing with fellow industry players and technologists will help identify the current technological needs and investments required.

Of course, enabling tech means appointing the right talent, and businesses will also need a highly-skilled, resilient workforce for sustained Industry 4.0.

Currently, just 20 percent of respondents agree that their organization has the skills required to survive Industry 4.0.

In terms of investment priorities, 74 percent would invest in training and developing workforces, 59 percent would invest in understanding what skills are needed, and just 28 percent will focus on attracting and retaining new talent.

While getting a big break in the age of Industry 4.0 sounds like a mountain to climb, companies that double down will be rewarded for their efforts, building the muscle required to position their organizations at the leading pack in the coming years.

Economic stimulus package to proceed on date to be announced by Interim PM - Guan Eng

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has indicated that the economic stimulus package will go ahead on a date to be announced by him in his capacity as the interim Prime Minister, said former finance minister Lim Guan Eng.

The plan, initially scheduled to be announced on Thursday, Feb 27, was among the issues that Lim discussed with Dr Mahathir this morning.

“I had met up with Dr Mahathir in the morning in his office to discuss political developments. Among the issues that happened to be discussed was the economic stimulus package that was planned to be announced by Dr Mahathir to react to the adverse global economic impact to Malaysia caused by the COVID-19 outbreak,” he said in a statement today.

Lim, who is the DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bagan, said the Finance Ministry had finalised the economic stimulus package on Sunday, Feb 23 – his last full day as finance minister – to be presented to Dr Mahathir for his approval on the following day.

However, Dr Mahathir submitted his resignation as the seventh premier yesterday. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who accepted the resignation, reappointed Dr Mahathir as the country’s interim Prime Minister later in the day.

On the advice of Dr Mahathir, His Majesty also revoked the appointments of all ministers.

In a three-paragraph statement, the chief secretary to the government, Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali, said during the interim period, Dr Mahathir would manage the country’s administration until the appointment of the new prime minister and the formation of a new cabinet.

Malaysia is not the only ASEAN nation planning a stimulus package to address concerns over COVID-19. Thailand’s Finance Ministry will be proposing a new economic stimulus package to the cabinet in mid-March.

Malaysia’s economic stimulus package, focusing on tourism, consumption and investment, is aimed at stimulating domestic travel, which has been affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.--Bernama

What Does the Future Hold for Commercial Robots?

Professional service robots exist because of meteoric technological developments. Robots were mostly expected to be found on the production floor in factories. These days, they are in the service industry and delivering packages to homes.

In a few years, robots will be used in mainstream applications. They will also be used increasingly in commercial places around the globe. Commercial robotics includes robots such as the following:

Drones
Field robots
Autonomous guided robots
Medical robots
The market for commercial robots is expected to grow swiftly in the next few years. In fact, by the year 2021, the market is expected to hit a value of $37 billion (International Federation of Robotics).

Logistics robots are expected to lead the pack followed closely by defense robots and exoskeletons. The demand for PR robots is set to rise. The future looks bright for professional service robots.

Technical Setbacks
There a few technical challenges that interfere with the efficient implementation of professional service robots. Some of these include:

Vision to facilitate navigation
Cognition in order to interact better with humans
Dexterity to enhance control
Vision to Facilitate Navigation
The next chapter of professional service robots may be committed to advancing vision software. This will enable robots to steer across the workplace. Consequently, the automation of non-factory tasks will increase profitability.

Dexterity to Enhance Control
In like manner, it is important for a robot to demonstrate dexterity. Commercial robots are not locked away behind cages. They are free to move around and interact with humans. As a result, there must be an element of control in order to protect the humans around the robots.

In addition, robots involved in household and agricultural tasks must be programmed to be gentle. They could easily damage the products and objects they work on. Hence, they should be able to see what they are working with and also to handle them gently.

Cognition to Interact Better
Cognition is also important because commercial robots often interact with humans one-on-one. Some of these robots are designed to perform tasks such as customer service. This involves interacting directly with humans; speaking with them and giving assistance.

Consequently, robotics is always coming up with innovative ways to improve these robots. Programming is complex and is constantly being enhanced. Commercial robots of the future are likely to have increasingly natural-like interactions with their human clients.

There may be a few technical issues to deal with but improvement is gradual and will be realized. There is no doubt that the professional robot of tomorrow will demonstrate improved capabilities.

Technological Enhancements in Commercial Robots
There are additional technological advancements that will help to solve some huge barriers affecting commercial robots. These advancements will ensure that commercial robots find a place in the mainstream.

These technological improvements include the following:

VSLAM (Visual Simultaneous Localization & Mapping)
This technology is mostly found in autonomous navigation. It allows the robot’s vision system to chart its surroundings and also find itself within those surroundings. VSLAM allows for path planning as well as autonomous navigation even in constantly changing environments.

Embedded Vision
This helps greatly with dexterity because a robot is able to stop operations if a human’s safety is threatened. It also helps robots to have a gentler grip in tasks such as food handling.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)
AI as well as machine learning methods are utilized to train bots to work collaboratively with humans. The aim is to advance natural language processing for better human-robot interactions. Catching a human and a robot in conversation will be a normal sight.

Conclusion
Professional service robots will be an expected and common presence in non-factory industries. They will have advanced capabilities and will work well humans. With AI, humanoid robots and those engaged in PR can communicate reasonably with humans.

Moreover, they will be able to travel across the work floor without endangering the humans therein. Also, they will be able to handle delicate products better and help businesses to give better yields.

Attorney-General Tommy Thomas resigns

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 28): Attorney-General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas has resigned as Malaysia gets set for a new Prime Minister.

Thomas submitted his resignation letter to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who appointed him to the post for a two-year term which was due to end only in June.

A source said Thomas wanted to resign while Mahathir was still the Prime Minister, albeit interim, as he was the person who appointed him.

Thomas had relentlessly pursued prosecutions related to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal.

It is not clear what will happen with these cases, which are still ongoing, with his departure and that of Mahathir, which is expected soon.

GOOD MORNING TO ALL ARBB 7181 FIGHTERS!

GOOD CALL QUARTZWILLY

ARBB (7181) IS THE UPCOMING BULL STOCK! STAY TUNE GUYS!

ARBB7181 technology, human capital, global trade and networks, and institutional frameworks as key drivers of production for Industry 4.0.
Malaysia’s ranking in each of these drivers emphasises priorities in technology, human capital and institutional frameworks (21st to 30th position out of 100
countries), consistent with some of the challenges highlighted previously

Technology adoption and diffusion are particularly important for SMEs and underscore
the importance of creating production networks and collaborations with MNCs and large
companies.

Human capital focus is key to creating an accelerated shift in productivity, especially as
Malaysia has been relying on low labour cost in the past, with a declining share of
skilled labour.

Strengthening institutional frameworks underpins the role of Government in creating the
right ecosystem and facilitating collaborative platforms.

On global trade and investment, Malaysia is already well-integrated into regional value
chains and exhibits a very good trade infrastructure, which is reflected in its strong
global ranking (7th).

Very good morning all

Like an incoming wave stock prices move forward 3 feet then retrace backward 2 feet

The wave movements do not go in a straight line. So is stock prices.

During the Ogse bull run of Carimin, velesto, penergy, Uzma and Dayang prices moved up strongly and the retraced many times

But it moved higher and higher as Ogse job awards progressed

So these same patterns will be repeated in IR4.0 bull run

The power behind how far and how high each individual stocks can go depend on

1. The quantum of job awards

2. The profit margin it can show up in its balance sheet

3. Any special incentive to shareholders management might dish out.

So these can be expected in IR4.0 stocks in coming months and years as they garnered new found wealth...overflowing wealth from IR4.0 jobs like never before

Traders who are nimble and PRECISELY will do well.
Greed and fear will always be in play

But since we have a very very favorable wind we should unfurl our sail and catch the bull run for as long as it lasts

ARBB 7181 NEXT BIG WAVE IS COMING YOUR WAY!
