You can print as many information on the USA war machineries moving in and out of SCS, it served no purpose, China will just monitor and ignore, and the American also knows that they can only sail along certain corridor. deviating from that only means disaster, from certain previous experience. Wrong analogy, Sabah & Sarawak were already independent from Britain when they both merged with Malaya to form Malaysia

While previous to that, Sabah was part of the Brunei kingdom/empire

The then sultan of Brunei offered the then sultan of Sulu only a few areas around some rivers, NOT the whole of Sabah, in return for sending warriors from Sulu to help him put down a local rebellion

But then the help from Sulu arrived late, the sultan of Brunei had already succeeded on his own, so the offer was rightly withdrawn
