Fed fails to tame inflation,
maybe raises rates 3 (max) more times.
Hold high some time then only drop 2024.
US, world biggest mkt, affects local mkt.
When US sneezes, we get pneumonia.
Contagion stk mkt effect is serious.
If drop VERY LOW, oppo to buy.

B40 wants to get loan from bank but bank doesn’t want because of poor credit scores.
Whereas Banks want to loan to higher credit scores M40 and T20 but these 2 groups don’t want to get loans with higher and higher interest rates.
Last last Banks are stressed out in high interest rates landscape.
Welcome to Grandpa world.

Going forward the focus will be less on banks and more on highly geared companies likely to go bankrupt with high-interest rates. Hopefully, funds will move to Asean countries.

More evidence is found in factor models, where money managers are avoiding companies with high levels of leverage and equity volatility. They also are ditching shares that screen highly for dividends and buybacks, a clear sign investors expect companies to preserve cash going forward rather then blasting it out to shareholders.

Meanwhile, gold briefly traded above $2,000 as investors seek out safe harbors to weather any oncoming storm. Money market funds also attracted their largest inflows since March 2020 in the week through March 22, with more than $300 billion moving into cash over the course of the past month, according to a Bank of America note that cites EPFR Global data.
Not all about banks but more of high debts companies are at risk of losses with high-interest rates. But could external funds flow to emerging economies like ASEAN countries?
Equity market volatility is not yet near the levels seen last week, with the Cboe VIX Index trading at 23. However implied volatility for US equity indexes and ETFs remains “pretty tense,” according to McElligot, while the so-called VVIX Index, which measures volatility of volatility, showed demand for tail risk hedging.

There are several key ratios that can be used to assess the safety of a bank. These ratios are used by regulators, investors, and analysts to evaluate the financial health of a bank. Some of the key ratios include:

Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR): This ratio measures the amount of capital a bank holds as a percentage of its risk-weighted assets. A higher CAR indicates that a bank is better able to absorb losses and is therefore considered safer.

Liquidity Ratio: This ratio measures a bank's ability to meet its short-term obligations. It looks at the amount of liquid assets a bank holds, such as cash and government securities, as a percentage of its total deposits. A higher liquidity ratio indicates that a bank is better able to withstand short-term financial shocks.

Loan-to-Deposit Ratio (LDR): This ratio measures a bank's loans outstanding as a percentage of its deposits. A lower LDR indicates that a bank is lending out less of its deposits, which can be a sign of a more conservative lending strategy.
Non-Performing Loan Ratio (NPL Ratio): This ratio measures the percentage of a bank's loans that are not being repaid by borrowers. A lower NPL ratio indicates that a bank has fewer risky loans and is therefore considered safer.

Net Interest Margin (NIM): This ratio measures a bank's profitability by looking at the difference between the interest it earns on its loans and the interest it pays on its deposits. A higher NIM indicates that a bank is earning more on its assets and is therefore more profitable and potentially safer.

These ratios are just a few of the many metrics used to evaluate the safety of a bank. It's important to consider a variety of factors, including a bank's financial history, management team, and overall business strategy, when assessing its safety.

Quiet here, have to wait for a few weeks more for more bad news (if any, but many speculate still more to come) hold tight, on the banking shakeout in the states. Still, certain gurus expect the feds to increase further the interest rate as America can't control the inflation rate at the moment. Already 5% and more to go and plus risk rate of borrowings. American corporations will be badly impacted? Doomsday gurus will be making public statement soon.
For those of you staying in this country, don't you feel the prices of food are increasing almost every month, why the statistics are not reflecting the rise? So if the US is expected to have run away inflation so are we?

PBB must be among the top holdings by US investors.

"Nearly half of the foreign non-strategic investors were from the US (43.99%), and their top three holdings were in banking counters,” the SC said."

He said in 2014 he had deposited money amounting to 250,000 Singapore Dollars as fixed deposit at UOB Bank Miri.

Upon maturity in 2016, the amount had accumulated to approximately RM800,000 in his bank account.

“However, when I was about to withdraw the money, I was told by the bank officer that all the money in my account had disappeared.

“I was also told that 22,700 Singapore Dollars was taken out of my account without my knowledge and approval,” he said.

Following that, Dr Teo lodged a police report in Miri and copies of the report were sent to the Parliament, Bank Negara Malaysia and the Ministry of Finance.

Teo was accompanied by counsel Sam Laya, who was representing Teo’s lawyer Abun Sui.
