Genting Singapore weak Q4 result was mainly due to kitchen sinking activities where the company booked in higher impairment for trade receivables, penalties and write-offs, and higher non-cash depreciation charges.

I see no alarm over Genting Singapore business as its cash balance ballooned to SGD3.9 billion as of 31 Dec 2023, and China tourists to Singapore are back to 100% pre-pandemic level. Maybank analyst expects the high impairment on trade receivables and penalties will not recur in 2024 and beyond.

I still see Genting Singapore to grow its EBITDA towards SGD1.4 billion by FY2025.

Good old dreaded impairment charges…these charges go up and own like yo yo. This is called Creative accounting ……let’s see what impact this has on the group as well as if other business also have elevated impairment charges …often referred to as black box!

Sure they may be right, but these surprises are all too common with Genting …. This time it is impairment suddenly next time something else or as was few weeks back transferring more shares held privately in empire resorts to Genting! Company lacks governance and professionalism I would say …needs to CEO from outside to get credibility not a family member.

I think Riaz 1954 is right. We need a CEO from outside. Let's vote the family CEO out in our next general meeting. Pls turn up in full force. I sold mine all and wait for 4.50 and below cos i think results will look like shit. Spore Genting is a good example. Coming Monday once results out you will know what i mean. My sixth sense.

Good discussion what the real issue is here. We are beginning to understand what is the cause of underperformance. The business post CV is recovering well, but the issue is the boss holding majority of shares and therefore minority shareholders are impotent. He can’t be removed as CEO and even business deals such Empire resorts transfer to Genting cannot be challenged nor can dividend payments …as the boss is in charge firmly in all business units as well Group company. This in itself is highly unusual. It is very frustrating being shareholder as we all want to make company from a business that has done well in the past. To make money we need Genting to operate as a listed company operating in open market conditions!
