If you buy Sime CR now at 3.5 sen, and if Sime can go up to the average target price of the investment banks at 10.80, you will make 260% profit! If it stays below 9.50, you lose all your money. It appears to me to be an exciting punt.

@kcchongnz, now you've got me very interested:-)
Following Sime closely for a rebound. But the slide might well continue tomorrow. Nowadays Sime rarely gets in the Top 10 of the most active and an event like this is worth noting and observing. There might be an opportunity here.

It's not just the case involving E&O but also due to the weakness in the plantations sector. Other counters like KLK, SOP etc. suffer significant drops too. CPO price has been going south and hit a new low yesterday. But there's a mild rebound today and some analysts say it has been oversold http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/10/3/business/20121003123058&sec=business

But, as we have seen many times in the past, the business environment is only one aspect of it when it comes to the share price. I'm more interested in sentiments - regardless of CPO's current price, plantations are seen as generally stable and dividend-generating. For traders like me, trying to catch the rebound is the key here. The -CR at 0.035, exercise price of RM9.50 and with 5 months left to expiry... as kcchongnz said, it's an exciting punt:-) I'm going to risk it.

I made a tying error in my previous post. If Sime goes up to the average target price of 10.80 at expiry of CR, the return on CR if you buy now at 3.5 sen is 364%, not 264%! Isn't that exciting?

I'm going to stick to 0.035. Need a safety margin. Have to be cautious and not simply rush in this kind of market. Might not get it at this price but I don't have the nerve to buy at a higher price.

Good luck! It doesn't take much for it to go to 0.05 or more and I'll be missing out. But I've become hesitant because I still have other CWs and shouldn't over-extend myself.

Mat Cendana, good discipline of yours. In investing, managing risks and not losing is as important as winning. Just to add below:

In this case I've missed out on potential gain. Want to keep the remaining capital unused, waiting for a more clear-cut opportunity. In this kind of market volatility, I believe the chances will come again and again. But good to know that @potenza10 has now made 0.005:-)

From The Star Alert -- "Plantation Industries Minister Bernard Dompok is proposing to cabinet that CPO export tax be lowered to 8% to 10% from 23%".

Plantations have been beaten down a lot today and the past few sessions. The above could help jumpstart a mild rebound. @richman - am thinking about that one too.

lullaby: you look to highly on me, I'm not an expert on warrant. I am still polishing my knowledge by reading other postings. We learn together with rest here :).

Here is my personal opinion on Sime-CR:-

1) limited choices available: only Sime-CP, CQ & CR. Good sign, there will be limited competition as CP & CQ expiring soon. Seller got the bargain power if underlying move up. Plus - it is very costly & risky for IBs to manipulate big cap underlying like Sime Darby. Risk of underlying manipulation is limited.

2) long expiry date as per highlight by kcchongnz & MC - 29/03/13. 5 months plus. long time to play.

3) premium at closing : approximately 4.8%. Low premium, easy to break even. good sign.

4) gearing = 9.41/ (8*0.045) = 26.14, very high = high risk high gain or high risk all gone. partly because of the low premium % also, if premium is higher, the gearing will drop

5) strike price = RM9.50, closing underlying price RM9.41, not to far away. a choice for savvy warrant trader

6) final & most important decision - what is the driver ? reason for underlying to move up or surge? because it is oversold today - is the reason solid enough to become driver?

- CPO on downtrend & yet to show & reversal sign currently. almost 50% of the operation profit of Sime Darby is contributed by plantation segment. Negative sign

- the issue related to E&O minority share holders lawsuits against SC decision on the MGO - another negative sign even though the case yet to conclude - trader dislike risk

I'm my opinion, the "driver" / "theme" is not solid enough & does not suite my risk appetite. Risk appetite varies according to individual. Some traders can accept the risk which is not acceptable to me & yet they make money.

The above are just a few quite screening criteria that I apply. You can always read more on other warrant here:http://www.shareinvestor.com.my/?action=page&id=article1

CPO at RM2,490 at the moment - up RM33 or 1.34%. If this continues, sentiment towards the plantation counters should pick up a bit. Looking at the usual suspects - Sime, SOP, FGV, the more speculative RSawit etc. for signs of positive movement to jump in for a (hopefully) short ride.

Is CR a buy at .035?

kcchongnz

6,684 posts

whether CR at 3.5 sen is worthwhile to buy or not depend on what is your own outlook on Sime Darby. If you think Sime can go up to the average target price of all the analysts of 10.80 within this five and a half months time before the expiry of CR, then buy in loads! This is because you will make at least 364% when you sell off CR before the expiry date or settle off for cash at expiry date. Even if sime can go up by just 2% from the present price to 9.90, you still make 43%. To me, at 3.5 sen is damn cheap, yeah damn bloody cheap in relation to the underlying share which is at 3.72 now. If you think Sime won't go up above the present price, stay far far away from CR or any call warrants of sime.

Big roadblock at 9.80. But the prices immediately above that should tumble like bowling pins if the lots remain the same. To institutional buyers: Please buy la. Tabung Haji: ni dah dekat nak raya haji, tolong la sikit... push Sime-CR to 0.07and I can go for haji next year:-)

Heheh! Bukan nazar, cuma "possibility" aje. By the way, Sime will be paying a 25 sen dividend on 14 Dec. 2012 "to depositors whose names appear in the Record of Depositors on 30 November 2012". This is quite significant <---(I'm trying to create interest and thereby a rise in price).

This resolution will 99.999% sure to be passed at its AGM on 8 November. But the more important question is one of the resolutions - of Datuk E. Sreesanthan offering himself to be re-elected as a director. He's facing charges of insider trading and had previously said he will not seek reelection. PNB and the major shareholders will have to be firm about this.

Just to let you guys know high dividend payment of Sime Darby is not good for price of call warrants. the underlying share price will go down about the same magnitude of dividend payment. Hence it is not good for CR. However, even with the dividend payment taking into consideration, with the ex-dividend price of Sime at 9.54 on 28/11/12, CR is still a very good punt. Premium will still be small at less than 3%. However it has 5 months before expiry and the gearing is very high at 30 times, hence the exciting punt.
