Ignore daily fluctuations
It seems that there is consensus Q1 will be lower
If Q1 comes out above expectation, price will follow too
For me I am pretty sure Q1 will be above expectation
I am expecting Q1 EPS 60sen.

Back to basics:

Refinery business:

High capital expenditure, need to invest to update to regulatory requirements.

Uncertain earnings (highly volatile based on uncertain and volatile refinery margins)

Products are commodity, sold based on competitive pricing.


Specific to Hengyuan:

A period of neglect due to under-investment in capital expenditure.

Need to spend 800 million to upgrade to regulatory requirements.

The present upgrade is going to take about 2.5 months and management has guided that there has been a delay already.

Company carries significant debts which are presently rolled over.

Its cash pile will soon disappear after the upgrade.

Net profit was particularly high in 2017 due to various factors that were temporary and not sustainable. Net profit margin going forward will probably be around 3%.

Capital expenditure to maintain the refinery is probably about 200 million annually.

Q1- 80 cents
Q2- 60 cents
Q3 - 20 cents
Q4- 70 cent
total RM 2.30 eps for 2018

Assume P/E ratio is 8 TP RM 18 compared to Keppel refinery spore P/E ratio 15

If P/E ratio 15, TP rm 36 for HY
