The following guidelines have been issued to visitors to Wuhan:

Travelers to Wuhan should:

1. Avoid contact with sick people.
2. Avoid animals (alive or dead), animal markets, and products that come from animals (such as uncooked meat).
3. Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
4. Older travelers and those with underlying health issues may be at risk for more severe disease and should discuss travel to Wuhan with their healthcare provider.

If you traveled to Wuhan and feel sick with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, you should

1. Seek medical care right away. Before you go to a doctor’s office or emergency room, call ahead and tell them about your recent travel and your symptoms.
2. Avoid contact with others.
3. Not travel while sick.
4. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
5. Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.

PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia has released a travel advisory, advising all Malaysians to defer all non-essential travel to Wuhan and other areas that may be affected by the Coronavirus.

“Malaysians residing or travelling in the affected areas are advised to give utmost priority to their personal health and safety by taking precautionary measures and adhere to instructions issued by the local authorities,“ the ministry said in a statement today.

PETALING JAYA: Three patients have tested negative for the Wuhan coronavirus and tests are being done on a fourth patient.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said the national Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) received a report of four suspected cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said the patients were placed in isolation for treatment and further investigation.

"Laboratory tests on three patients were found to be negative for the coronavirus," he said.

He added that another patient – the fourth suspected case at a Sabah hospital on Jan 22 – was in stable condition.

"Samples of these cases have been sent to the Institute of Medical Research (IMR) for testing and confirmation.

SINGAPORE (ANN): A China national has tested positive for the Wuhan virus in Singapore, with another likely to have the virus.

The 66-year-old man, a Wuhan resident, arrived in Singapore with nine travelling companions on Monday (Jan 20), and stayed at Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa resort, the Ministry of Health said at a briefing on Thursday night (Jan 23).

A 53-year-old woman, also a China national but not travelling with the group, has come up positive in preliminary tests, which are awaiting confirmation.

In addition, the man's son, 37, is a suspected case and has also been warded, while the rest of the group are being quarantined and monitored for two weeks.

Both Vietnam & Singapore just reported 2 cases each today. This is a serious matter and already a confirmed global pandemic. WHO better act fast as Wuhan coronavirus (either from Bats or Snakes) will definitely require an immediate global response to contain this outbreak since this coronavirus is SARS like.

The virus, now known as 2019-nCoV, can now be passed from person to person, has already killed 17 people and infected at least 540 throughout China, with cases also surfacing in Taiwan, Japan, Macau, Thailand, Vietnam and the United States.

The Chinese health authorities have so far been unable to determine the origin of the virus but they say the new virus, which has no vaccine, is mutating and spreading.

Infections are expected to spike over the Chinese New Year weekend as a large number of travellers travel to and from, as well as within, China.

WUHAN (AFP): China locked down two major cities in a province at the centre of a deadly virus outbreak on Thursday (Jan 23), banning planes and trains from leaving in an unprecedented move aimed at containing the disease which has already spread to other countries.

The respiratory virus has claimed 17 lives since emerging from a seafood and animal market in Wuhan, infected hundreds of other people nationwide and been detected as far away as the United States.

Residents in Wuhan, a major port city in central Hubei province with a population of 11 million people, were told Thursday not to leave "without a special reason", and the order was backed by a transport shutdown.

Trains and planes out of Wuhan were indefinitely suspended, tollways on roads out the city were closed, leading to fear and panic for those who were trapped.

Hours later, authorities in neighbouring Huanggang announced that public transport and train services would be suspended at midnight, while people were told to not leave the city of 7.5 million.

All of Huanggang's cinemas, internet cafes, and the central market will close.

A third city, 1.1 million-population Ezhou, announced the train station had been temporarily closed earlier in the day.

“The World Health Organization on Thursday called the outbreak "an emergency in China" but stopped short of declaring the epidemic of international concern.“
Death toll already reached 25 in a short duration and the Wuhan Coronavirus is already pandemic globally :-|

On a more serious note, let’s hope that this Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic will be contained soon.

GEORGE TOWN: The management of a hotel at Jalan Magazine here is appealing for the return of a ‘golden mouse’ figurine that was stolen from the hotel foyer.

M Summit managing director’s special officer Moh Wei Ken said the human-sized mouse made of foam was placed at the hotel entrance to mark the hotel’s 20th anniversary this year.

It is the Chinese New Year mascot for M Summit 191 Executive Hotel Suites.

“After the decor was put up early this month, the mouse attracted a lot of attention and people were seen taking wefies with the cute mascot.

Bring the mouse back: CCTV footage shows a man carting the golden mouse away. The hotel said they will not pursue the matter if it is returned.

“We miss it and we are appealing to the person who took it to return it safely and we won’t pursue the matter further.

“It’s not about the cost, but the sentimental vaue of the friendly mascot which brightens up the festive mood,” he said, adding that the hotel management has lodged a police report over the incident.
