I think this news affected the momentum. sayang :) KOTA KINABALU (Aug 6): Sabah has decided to tighten standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) to control the spread of Covid-19 following the rise in the number of cases in the state.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the Sabah State Health Department report showed that the cumulative number of positive Covid-19 cases on July 25 was 384 and increased to 402 cases on Aug 4, that is an increase of 18 cases.

Mohd Shafie said the number of positive Covid-19 cases being treated in hospitals across the state during this period increased fourfold, from four cases to 16 cases.

“The state government views seriously the increase in positive cases and is worried that the pandemic will get worse if control measures are not tightened.

“Hence, the authorities need to step up enforcement of SOPs, besides requiring the people to wear face masks in public places and regularly washing their hands with water and soap and using hand sanitisers and to practice physical distancing,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Shafie said operators of business premises also need to limit the number of customers at a time and this depends on the size of the premises and must ensure separate entrances and exits, besides getting their temperatures recorded.

He said, the number of people at social and official events should also be limited to 150 people for a maximum period of three hours and food must be pre-packed or served by a waiter with the owner or operator of the premises performing the sanitation process often.

“The state government has urged the authorities to extend random testing for Covid-19 and not focusing only on certain high-risk groups.

“If necessary, Covid-19 screening test should be reinforced at all entry points be it air, land or sea,” he said, reminding Sabahans to avoid all unnecessary travel and outdoor activities.

Airline stocks soar after GOP senators push for $25 billion in additional industry aid

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/08/05/coronavirus-aid-package-senators-push-for-billions-more-in-airline-aid.html

More than a dozen Republican senators on Wednesday backed $25 billion in additional federal aid for the airline industry as a spike in coronavirus cases in the U.S. in recent weeks derailed a nascent recovery in travel demand.
The news sent shares sharply higher Wednesday afternoon. American Airlines' stock closed up 9.5%, after trading as much as 12% higher on the day. United Airlines and Delta Air Lines added more than 4% and 3%, respectively.

The added GOP support increases the likelihood that the funds get included in the next big aid package to help the U.S. weather the impact of the pandemic. More than 200 House lawmakers have already backed the extension, which would preserve jobs until the end of March 2021. The endorsement from GOP senators in the Republican-controlled Senate puts pressure on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to include the provision in a final aid package.
U.S. passenger airlines were allocated $25 billion in aid, mostly in grants, that would preserve sector jobs through Sept. 30, but carriers have told more than 70,000 workers that their jobs are at risk after that deadline passes.

Meanwhile, travel demand remains at a fraction of last year's levels and financial losses at airlines are mounting. Executives say a demand recovery to 2019 levels could take years and that appetite for air travel will be limited barring a coronavirus vaccine.
"For these reasons, we support a clean extension of payroll support for passenger air carrier employees included in the CARES Act to avoid furloughs and further support those workers," the 16 Republican senators wrote in a letter, which was seen by CNBC, to McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. The letter was signed by Sens. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., Todd Young, R-Ind., Roger Wicker, R-Miss., Marco Rubio, R-Fla., John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Susan Collins, R-Maine, and others.
The senators also urged Congress to consider support for other aviation-related businesses like concessionaires and aircraft producers.

"Such businesses and their workers are uniquely tethered to air travel and have been and will continued to be significantly impacted by the decline in air travel," they wrote.
Boeing shares rose 5.6% on Wednesday while its key supplier Spirit Aerosystems, which makes fuselages and other parts, added nearly 9%.

Many workers already left
Labor unions had been urging Congress to extend the airline aid since June and CEOs of some of the largest U.S. carriers have recently said they back an extension. Chief executives of American and Southwest, have said they have spoken with lawmakers and officials in Washington about the additional aid.

Broad international markets development will dictate the price. If US continue to trend higher, AA may survive longer at higher price, reverse is the truth if US is embracing another round of bearish.

Covid impact: The collapse in demand for air travel due to the Covid-19 pandemic meant that Lufthansa carried 96% fewer passengers between April and June than a year earlier, leading to an 80% drop in second quarter revenue to €1.9bil. — AFP

BERLIN: Germany’s Lufthansa said it does not expect air travel demand to return to pre-crisis levels before 2024 as a steep drop in revenue pushed it to its worst-ever quarterly operating loss of €1.7bil.

The airline said on Thursday the collapse in demand for air travel due to the Covid-19 pandemic meant it carried 96% fewer passengers between April and June than a year earlier, leading to an 80% drop in second-quarter revenue to €1.9bil.

Despite cost cuts, it posted an adjusted operating loss of €1.7bil compared to €754mil a year earlier - the worst quarterly result in the company’s 67-year history.

“We are experiencing a caesura in global air traffic.

“We do not expect demand to return to pre-crisis levels before 2024, ” chief executive Carsten Spohr said, adding the company would not be spared a “far-reaching restructuring” of its business.

Lufthansa said last month it would cut 20% of its leadership positions and 1,000 administrative jobs as it seeks to repay a €9bil state bailout and navigate deepening losses in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

The company, which had 129,400 employees as of the end of June, said forced redundancies can no longer be ruled out in Germany due to the development of the market and the course of negotiations with unions.

Lufthansa said it plans to increase short and medium-haul capacity to around 40% of the prior-year period in the third quarter and to around 20% of capacity on long-haul routes.

In the fourth quarter, it expects short- and medium-haul capacity to rise to 55% and to 50% on long-haul routes.

Rival Air France-KLM, which also secured state-backed aid, aims to operate at two thirds of capacity before the end of the year.

The company said it expects to post an adjusted operating loss in the second half of 2020 and a further significant decline in adjusted operating profit for the full-year due to very limited operation of important long-haul routes. — Reuters

So many say buy but doesn't even understand simple balance sheet.

AirAsia went into PN17 in just one quarter, usually other companies takes year to bankrupt till PN17.

Now how many months already, still no banks willing to help, government also dont want, because they know even if give loan AA might need even more or cant pay back at all.

AA say can survive if get loan because they predict things will 100% get better soon, but you see there's 2nd wave, then what if there's 3rd and 4th wave also. International flights gonna take forever before it is open again, domestic wont be enough to cover the losses.

There is still a looong way of pain ahead of Airasia, Bursa already give 1 year time for AA before they going to delist it, so if you wanna buy and gamble, better buy at lower price, at least 0.50c and lower

Think about it, if you're the loan giver, wouldnt you want to wait for a clear road for AA before you give loan so that you get all your money back?

Its best that we avoid AA for a while, buy again when hit 0.50 and lower, dont be surprised if it even goes 0.30-0.40cent

hopefully, able to stop the spread. ARAU (Aug 7): The Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) has ordered the closure of 12 mosques in the Sanglang state constituency and neighbouring areas, effective today, due to the recurrence of Covid-19 infection.

Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also the MAIPs president, in a statement today said the mosques would be closed until a date to be announced later.

“Friday prayers for the affected constituents will be replaced with Zohor prayers at their respective homes,” he added.

The affected mosques are seven in the Sangland state constituency, namely Masjid Al-Rahman, Kg Simpang Sanglang; Masjid Al-Maghfirah, Sungai Korok; Masjid Darul Salam, Kampung Padang Keria; Masjid Al-Makmur, Kampung Bongor Kudung; Masjid Al-Furqan, Kampung Bunga Emas; Masjid Asy-Syakur, Kampung Permatang Bongor; and Masjid Dato’ Jaafar Hassan, Kampung Sungai Padan.

Three mosques are in the Simpang Empat state constituency — Masjid Putra, Simpang Empat; Masjid Al-‘Ilmi, Sungai Berembang; and Masjid Ameer Fawwaz, Kampung Sungai — while the other two mosques are in the Guar Sanji state constituency — Masjid Nurul Yaqin, Kampung Chantik Bangun; and Masjid Nurul Muttaqin, Kampung Che Ok.
