Kuala Lumpur, 13 August 2020 - Following on from the success of the Save Our Shops (S.O.S) campaign in April 2020, AirAsia’s logistics arm Teleport is gearing up to launch another campaign called “Shop Sama Kamek”. This campaign is held in conjunction with the Government’ Short-Term Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) Micro and SMEs (MSMEs) E-commerce Campaign that was rolled out in June by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). The “Shop Sama Kamek” campaign will be launched specifically to support more East Malaysia merchants to sell food items online on OURSHOP, AirAsia’s e-commerce platform in September.

With the launch of this “Shop Sama Kamek” campaign, OURSHOP will recruit a total of 300 merchants from small and medium enterprises in East Malaysia ranging from food categories of fresh, frozen and packaged food.

“In order to fulfill our campaign needs and revive the local economy, we have received approval by the Government for a grant to initiate cross-border delivery, marketing efforts and training for merchants. This will allow us to provide the necessary resources and needs to support merchants in East Malaysia to be E-commerce ready”, said Pete Chareonwongsak, CEO of Teleport.

OURSHOP is an e-commerce marketplace, owned by AirAsia to spur the growth of local products by developing traditional small and medium businesses to be e-commerce ready. To top it all off, shoppers can also earn BIG Points with every successful purchase made, and even use BIG Points to pay for their shopping.

WOW...AI and RPA for AA

SEPANG, 13 AUGUST 2020 – AirAsia Group is accelerating its ongoing digital transformation journey further by implementing robotic process automation (RPA) in collaboration with Silicon Valley and India-based enterprise automation platform JIFFY.ai.

Chief Transformation Officer Azli Mohamed said the implementation of RPA followed a review of AirAsia’s internal processes and workflows, which showed that business process automation can be done easily with the right tools in place.

“At AirAsia, we continuously seek to push the boundaries of innovation. RPA will allow our workforce to automate mundane and repetitive tasks, which will free up valuable time to focus on other tasks that require thinking and experience-based judgment.

“RPA will enable us to increase productivity, reduce errors and redeploy resources to higher-value functions. All these benefits will ultimately translate into sizable cost savings and top-line revenue growth.”

AirAsia has appointed India- and US-based JIFFY.ai to initiate its RPA adoption, which began in May 2020. The implementation leverages JIFFY.ai’s artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled automation platform, which brings intelligent automation, intelligent document processing and analytics together in a single solution.

“We are delighted to have been chosen as the partner for AirAsia to help them on their digital transformation journey,” said Babu Sivadasan, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, JIFFY.ai. “The JIFFY.ai AUTOMATE platform is expandable and extensible and will give them the intelligent automation power they need to streamline and improve complex business processes while supporting innovation to help the business grow.”

WOW...medical charter flight by AA. Well done !

BAYAN LEPAS, 14 AUG 2020 - Patients and medical tourists from Indonesia now have greater access to medical treatments and health services in Malaysia as AirAsia seeks to play a bigger and more active role in the sector by providing medical charter flight services.

AirAsia welcomed its first international medical charter flight from Medan into Penang International Airport today.

The medical charter service will be expanded to other cities in Indonesia and soon develop into an end-to-end service offering under the AirAsia.com platform.

Karen Chan, AirAsia.com CEO said, “Amid travel restrictions in these challenging times, AirAsia is committed towards connecting people to their critical needs, and I would like to commend our AirAsia Health team for facilitating this medical charter flight from Medan into Penang. The next medical charter flight from Indonesia will be from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur on 24 August.

“These are stressful times for families with members suffering from chronic illnesses that require specialised medical treatments. AirAsia is working closely with medical institutions and government authorities to ensure inbound patients have a seamless travelling experience from Indonesia to Malaysia. We will continue to work with strategic partners like Island Hospital in Penang, and with the full support of Malaysia Healthcare Travel

“Indonesia as a country accounts for the highest inbound healthcare tourists arriving into Malaysia. AirAsia Health will be launching an end-to-end online health and wellness platform on AirAsia.com in the very near future.”

AA going to become stronger after the pandemic over next year

We project MAHB to record a net loss of RM301mil in FY20F, but turn around with net profits of RM383mil and RM498mil in FY21–22F on the gradual recovery of the air travel and tourism industries as the Covid-19 pandemic subsides.
We project MAHB’s passenger traffic to contract by 60% in FY20F (slightly more cautious vs. a 49–50% contraction forecasted by Mavcom), but subsequently rebound by 75% in FY21F and further grow by 35% in FY22F. The key risk to our assumptions is the actual timing of the reopening of international borders as international passengers historically made up ~50% of MAHB’s total traffic (implied in our assumptions is that international borders will gradually reopen from end-2020/early 2021). Already, the Malaysia-Singapore border is slated for reopening from 17 Aug 2020, subject to travellers completing substantial paperwork and complying with a long list of conditions.
On a monthly basis, MAHB’s passenger traffic has been on a recovery trend. From only 1% of the passenger traffic recorded the year before in Apr 2020 at the height of the pandemic, MAHB’s July 2020 numbers improved to 20% of the year before. We believe the passenger traffic could potentially recover to 50% of pre-Covid-19 level by the end of FY20F, mainly driven by demand from domestic passengers (particularly between East and West Malaysia), as well as improvement from the international passengers traffic (as cross-border travel gradually resumes).
