If anything mentioned by Tony Pua is libellous and jeopardize reputation of Gamuda, don't feel shy to take this Tony Pua to court. Ask him to pay 5% of rm 8.82 billion as compensation.

there is a simple way to verify Tony Pua is good, righteous or a bad guy:-
1) did he cut down a lot of construction cost for the project?
YES, from the revised construction contract figures, it said so. The contract for the elevated
package was changed from PDP contract to turnkey contract with many optimized designs cut
down the construction cost tremendously. The turnkey contract cost for underground package
was also cut down tremendously.

If you now go and visit the MRT Line-2 elevated stations for Phase-1 ( along Jln Kepong & Jln
Ipoh ) and compared with the MRT Line-1, you can see a lot of unnecessary design / features /
fixtures in MRT Line-1 are no more in MRT Line-2.

You clearly see MRT Line-1 is too luxury. Every time when i used MRT Line-1, I always ask - do
we need false ceiling for platform?? You spent the investment cost & subject to more
maintenance cost.

2) did he save a lot of money for government / rakyat?
YES.

3) out of all this effort, huha here & there, did he get anything for himself from whatever happened?
Police / MACC to verify.

Seeing it from your perspective ---- He is good, righteous or a bad guy.. You judge.
My 5 cents input.

Gamuda 1Q net profit down 29% q-o-q to RM152 mil; declares six sen dividend
Syafiqah Salim

December 21, 2021 19:19 pm +08

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 21): Gamuda Bhd’s net profit for the first quarter ended Oct 31, 2021 (1QFY22) fell 28.83% quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q) to RM152.37 million from RM214.08 million amid lower overseas property earnings, citing that ‘Vietnam was in lockdown’ for the quarter under review.

This resulted in lower earnings per share of 6.06 sen in 1QFY22 compared with 8.52 sen in 4QFY21, the construction group’s filing on Tuesday (Dec 21) showed.

Gamuda’s quarterly revenue also decreased by 15.74% to RM747.11 million from RM886.67 million in the immediate preceding quarter.

The group declared an interim dividend of six sen per share for the financial year ending July 31, 2022, with the entitlement date will be announced later.

On a yearly basis, the group’s net profit climbed 38.15% from RM110.3 million despite revenue declining slightly by 2.2% from RM763.95 million. Gamuda attributed the strong year-on-year earnings from all its divisions as work on all fronts continued to pick up the pace.

It said property sales improved 25% with RM838 million worth of properties sold in 1QFY22, from RM673 million in the same period last year.

“Overseas sales continued to spearhead the group’s property divisions, contributing two-thirds of overall sales. While at the local front, Gamuda Gardens and Gamuda Cove sales have doubled in volume,” it noted.

Gamuda anticipated that 2022’s performance will be driven by overseas and local property sales, as well as the continued progress of MRT Putrajaya Line (formerly called MRT Line 2).

“Moving forward, the resilience of the group is underpinned by its construction order book of RM3.8 billion and unbilled property sales totalling RM4.9 billion.

“On top of that, the group has a healthy balance sheet with low gearing of 0.2 times and a strong cash position,” it added.

Gamuda closed four sen or 1.39% higher at RM2.92, with some 763,400 shares traded. Based on its closing price, the stock was valued at RM7.34 billion. It has fallen 21.72% year-to-date.

end of last year 2021, a bunch of old junks in the company retired. now young fella in-charge. pity those senior fella that worked so hard in the past aiming for the position but taken by a young guy. hopefully that young bull does not make silly big mistake, goes and challenge lions in the jungle.

why need a young fella to lead? this is not a company that need very young & creative mind to lead. leadership & experience from senior people are much more important. construction is not much other than copy & paste works with little value added thing like value engineering, new construction method ( copy & paste from others ). the main effort is to manage it wisely with experience.

China is a world famous no. 1 as an "Infrastructure Devil". They have punched through mountains / rocks from China to Pakistan, Nepal, crossed under the giant Yellow River, etc. Some of the tunnels at the north-east China have to be cooled down by ice every few minutes due to high temperature. The ECRL tunnel is simply just a peanut project.

Fragile steel bars/Tofu-dreg project in China/Shaky building/Collapsing buildings/Poor quality

This is the steel bar used in the construction of a building in China. Its fragility is disturbing. In China, it’s everyone's dream to own their own home. China's real estate industry is arguably the largest in the world. The majority of Chinese people's savings are invested in their homes. But the quality of China's housing construction has always been a concern for buyers and residents alike. The Chinese refer to buildings that are of poor quality or even have serious safety problems as tofu-dreg projects.
These are just some of the tofu-dreg projects in China so far this year. The term "tofu-dreg" was first coined by former Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji. After he inspected the collapse of floodwalls in a southern city in 1998, the Premier angrily criticized it as a "tofu-dreg project" when asked about the cause of the failure. Since then, the term "tofu-dreg construction" has appeared frequently in all major Chinese media and has gradually become well known.
More than two decades later, the collapse of "tofu-dreg" projects in China has not disappeared or decreased. Instead, it has become more frequent. It keeps repeating itself and eventually becomes a characteristic of China that is known by the world

KUALA LUMPUR: Gamuda Bhd could secure contracts worth billions from several developments in 2022, namely the potential reactivation of the Mass Rapid Transit III (MRT3), a new bypass construction package in Australia and the revival of the Penang South Islands (PSI) land reclamation.

CGS-CIMB Research said Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd might relaunch the MRT3 project worth between RM20 billion and RM30 billion with civil works tender in the first half of 2022.

There are potential awards for the ongoing bid in Australia, averaging up to RM6 billion and the tender process for one new bypass construction package in New South Wales, for which the Gamuda- Ferrovial joint-venture (JV) has emerged as among the three shortlisted bidders.

The research firm said Gamuda could also benefit from the government's review of the divestment of the company's domestic highway assets via a highway trust proposal.

CGS-CIMB Research said Gamuda would still be among the main contenders for the MRT 3 in the civil works tender rounds, which could be launched in the second quarter of 2022, even with a potential change in the structure of the civil works component.

"We are positive the underground scope will likely be tendered as one single package as this bodes well for the MMC-Gamuda JV given its strong track record and credentials in the tunnelling scopes of MRT 1 and MRT2."

CGS-CIMB Research said Gamuda's end-October 2021 net gearing of 0.17 time translated into an additional borrowing capacity of over RM4 billion, based on the company's self-imposed net gearing limit of 0.7 times.

"This allows ample room for Gamuda to participate in the private sector funding component of the MRT 3 project."

CGS-CIMB Research said the PSI land reclamation project could also be launched in the second half (2H) of 2022, following the earlier setback related to a court ruling in favour of a fishing community's appeal to revoke the environmental impact assessment (EIA) approvals.

"We gather the progress is back on track, with resubmission of the project's EIA application targeted by March 2022 and likely approval by mid-2022, and the start of works is targeted for 2H of 2022."

The research firm said Gamuda's share price is at attractive levels and has reiterated an Add call with a target price of RM3.88.

Gamuda is a big-cap construction company. They need mega/big projects with a value above RM1 bil to sustain. Local market doesn't have big projects for them and they won't be competitive enough to compete with small to mid-cap players to get jobs below RM1 bil.

I think the answer is buy and hold assuming you have diversified holdings and have the liquidity.
More contracts hopefully to come from Australia…any contract is better than no contract as it keeps engine running and wait until elections are held and some brave investment decisions are made by the govt!
