We do not need to declare our dividend income in our tax submission like previous years. It is a single tier reporting system now and we are not entitle to claim tax credit from Income Tax Dept depending on our tax regime. Also the dividend we received is net dividend after tax. But it is good to keep a record of the dividends we received just in case we need to make huge purchases in the future.

Huge purchases I mean something like car, house, etc. In case Income Tax Dept request us to substantiate the source of our income on this purchase. Hope my explanation is correct.

@jeffchan1901...nhbeen explanation is correct, dividend, as of now, is tax free.

Maybank is a low beta stock,a very suitable investment to park your retirement fund with an attractive yield of 6 to 7 %.

Many people I know do have (at least) some in their portfolio.

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2022/12/30/1-8mil-maybank-account-numbers-in-data-leak-are-fake-says-minister/

PETALING JAYA: The 1.8 million Maybank account numbers which were said to have been part of an alleged data breach are fake, according to the communications and digital minister.

Fahmi Fadzil was referring to claims of a data leak involving nearly 13 million Malaysians from databases belonging to Maybank, Astro and the Election Commission (EC).

The claim was made by Twitter user “Pendakwah Teknologi” yesterday.

“Initial investigations show that the Maybank account numbers are fake and do not exist, and no transactions can be done through them,” he said in a statement.

“The investigation also showed that the alleged data leak is in reference to an incident that took place in 2018.

Stabilized at RM8.68 there for the fist trading day of 2023. Nice

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2023-01-04 15:21 | Report Abuse

Maybank was trading at around RM8.30 this time last year. Its share price has appreciated 40 sen over the past year. Total dividend paid last year was 58 sen a share. There is thus a total capital gain of 98 sen or 12% return.

2022 year end rally didn't materialize. Hopefully there is one before Chinese New Year which would propel Maybank's share price beyond RM9.

RM8.83 now, another 2% to RM9. Hope this could be achieved by next Friday.

Upcoming Dividend announcement will be Mar/Apr .....

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2023-01-18 10:55 | Report Abuse

The company would inform the quantum of dividend to be paid when it announces its final quarter results towards the end of next month. Official announcement will come in early March and dividend payment should be made by mid April. My guess is the amount of dividend would not be less than 30 sen a share.

The Dividend Yield of Maybank should be calculated from the cash dividend only.
The portion that eligible for DRIP actually is not dividend, but kind of Right Issue.

For the last 2 dividend payment, the Cash and Drip dividend are 0.225+0.075 and 0.210+0.07,
Most people just conveniently said the Dividend Yield = (0.3+0.28) / 8.80 = 6.6%,
For me, I take only the Cash Dividend for Calculation, DY = (0.225+0.21) / 8.80 = 4.9%,

My way of calculation, show that Maybank DY has increase tremendously,
Therefore, I have recently bought Maybank.

In a rights issue, an investor has to come out with his own money to subscribe for the rights shares but here you are getting the shares for free, absolutely free.

Haha......some people don't know that you can choose to take cash in full if you don't want the DRP shares.

.....and if your holding is high where the DRP shares is higher than one lot, you can sell after price gone ex and make about 3 to 4% that comes with the DRP discount.

I agreed with @prudentinvstor and @stkoay. One can opt in for DRP shares or cash. As such, the dividend portion for DRP must be included in the dividend yield calculation. Also share price offered under DRP is a discounted price and the potential to make additional capital gain is possibly there.

Haha....you people really think that I do not know I could opt for cash instead of DRIP?

Let say Maybank announce RM1.00 interim and final RM1.00 dividend for this calendar year 2023,
and say 100% eligible for DRIP at issue price RM5.00,

According to your understanding, the DY = 2.00/8.80 = 22.7%,
But for my calculation, this year DY = 0/8.80 = 0%.

Now, say I have 12,000 units Maybank or in percentage = 12,000 / 11,885,000,000 = 0.0001%,
My entitlement = 12000*2.00/5.00 = 4800 units, or 40%,
As there is huge discount, almost everyone would opt for DRIP,
Meaning everyone get extra 40% units, and my ownership in maybank is still = 0.0001%,

So what actually do I get?

We look at DY because we want to know the company is in good health or not?
We want to know if the company are able and ready to pay out cash to shareholders?

But in the above example, we do not receive Cash and the company do not pay out Cash.
May be I have mistaken, I should have said DRIP is kind of mini bonus issue.

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2023-01-19 10:28 | Report Abuse

"So what actually do I get?"
Oh dear, you get 4,800 units of Maybank shares which you can dispose of to get cash. Which university did you graduate and what did you study?

Come on,
You have now 16800 units, but still the same 0.00010% ownership,
You sell off the 4800 units, your ownership become 0.00007%,
So you are actually disposing part of your ownership for cash.
Is this called dividend?
To me, dividend is the cash that I receive from the company, without reducing / affecting my ownership.

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2023-01-19 12:44 | Report Abuse

"You sell off the 4800 units, your ownership become 0.00007%,"
Lad. you are very confused. assuming you sold your 4,800 Maybank shares at RM8.80 a share, you would be RM42,240 richer than before. If you sell and others don't of course your ownership would drop.
