The amount is very small versus the total industry, while this is a negative but it's minimal for the total industry.

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 24): The absence of a prosperity tax in the revised Budget 2023 is deemed a ‘huge relief’ for the corporate sector, says Bursa Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar.

Abdul Wahid opined that another round of prosperity tax could have potentially shaved off 5%-6% of 2023 earnings for KLCI constituents.

“Without prosperity tax being imposed, analysts have a consensus forecast EPS [earnings per share] growth rate of 20.1% for 2023 compared to -1.3% for 2022. This augurs well for the capital market,” he said in a statement on Friday (Feb 24).

Maybank is the top holding of both ASB and ASM.

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2023-02-25 22:52 | Report Abuse

Maybank's shares are tightly held by institutions. Those holding above 100,000 shares account for over 98% of Maybank total issued shares.

Maybank good investment loh!

Dividend yield more than 6% pa mah!

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2023-02-26 15:38 | Report Abuse

With Maybank, small investors can more or less predict how much it would earn and how much dividend it would declare. It is so predictable and consistent.

30 sen cash, no dilution of EPS and major shareholders no need to off load DRP shares in open market.....and if they don't need so much cash from dividend, will use the proceed to buy from open market.......overall slight positive.

Maybank is putting 3.6B CASH into the pockets of shareholders.....

Posted by Tedinvestor > 2023-02-27 14:52 | Report Abuse

This time no drp?

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2023-02-27 15:07 | Report Abuse

drp only benefits institutions holding millions, tens of millions or even hundreds of millions of Maybank shares. For small investors like us, making RM50 from the drs is also a problem.

No drp is good in the sense that there will be no increase in shares and no dilution of future EPS.
.....and I noticed that, previously, a major investor used to off load the drp shares for cash (resulting extra selling pressure)

Targets 10.5%-11% ROE in FY2023
Going forward, Maybank said asset quality management will remain a priority for it this year, and that it is targeting a return on equity (ROE) of between 10.5% and 11% in FY2023 as its headline key performance indicator.

other smaller banks are borrowing money from Maybank
analysis of weaker smaller banks show that they are net interbank borrowers.

=> Maybank is still the King of the Jungle
Hurray !!!!

Target an increase of about 10% ROE from current year........can expect dividend to be higher for FY2023 if payout % remained the same.

Posted by Tedinvestor > 2023-02-27 16:07 | Report Abuse

Without prosperity tax in 2023.

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2023-02-27 22:20 | Report Abuse

@Amazonboy, DBS trades at over SGD34 a share while UOB trades at almost SGD30, more than 10 times Maybank's share price. However, Maybank has a dividend yield which is almost 50% higher than the yields of both DBS and UOB. Given a choice, I would still choose Maybank.

30c is a disappointment with no DRP its works out to be less than last year. You need to consider inflation has eaten away at the Capital value. Dividend of 30c with DRP last year was a lot better.

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2023-02-28 09:32 | Report Abuse

"When will see see RM9?"
@Pinky, this round of dividend payment doesn't involve the issue of drp shares. Hence there is no need to keep Maybank shares low. I am quite confident that you would see RM9 before it trades ex-dividend.

With Management targeting a ROE of 10.5 to 11%, if dividend payout remain at current % of about 85%.....we can expect a dividend of 63/64 sen for FY2023.

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2023-02-28 12:22 | Report Abuse

I am already very satisfied with last year's total dividend of 58 sen a share which translates into a yield of 6.6%. Doubt the EPF could pay more than 5.5% dividend for 2022.
