Bonus issue will increase trading liquidity of PBB hence more aspiring retail investors can get their share at more "affordable" price.

It's a positive move anyhow; as a lot cash rich auntie and uncle will withdraw their FD and park into PBB. Don't play2..

With positive outlook right now, vaccine around the corner no further cut OPR US stimulus deal, not very likely to be downtrend.

Posted by verbatin1969 > 2020-12-08 21:45 | Report Abuse

Public Bank Bhd has proposed four bonus shares for every one share held, the first ever for the bank as it aims to reward existing shareholders for their loyalty and continuous support.

is that the first ever for the bank? i dont think so?

Just divide your cost by 5. Say your cost is RM15, it will be RM3 per share.

Bonus issue is a big reward to existing shareholders. The lowered new price (from 2 digits to1) will be more attractive to new buyers. The gap for share price appreciation will therefore be bigger. As you hold more share units, there will be more profits when a dividend is declared in the future too. VOLUME is king!

@Sharefisher RM6 is possible in 3 to 5 years. Because the price is lowered now, many will be interested in buying.

Posted by SpeedNpower > 2020-12-08 22:20 | Report Abuse

PBB doesnt need fund. It's already cash rich. They are just rewarding their loyal share holders.

rm18 is too expensive for small funds, time to divide by 5 so that every one can buy and held it.

after giving out bonus shares, means, no more dividends???

winston1

As long as they are making money, they will still declare dividend at a lower rater due to share dilution.Maybe dividend may coincide with bonus issue in Jan or Feb.

I just worry once the reserved fund (retained profit) depletes after bonus issue, how PBB pays out dividend...Hopefully PBB will still keep its dividend policy

Dividend possible don't have de after Bonus

Posted by SpeedNpower > 2020-12-08 23:36 | Report Abuse

If you look at it long term, the more shares you have the more dividend you'll get. It will take another 2-3 years to see real money. Pbb focus on super loyal shareholders that has been keeping it for past 10 years. they will untung not new players.

Dividen are paid on current year's earnings, the balance of earnings after dividen goes to retained profit. Normally dividen doesnt comes from retained earning unless it is a Sp. Dividen

basically it's a stock split right? Bonus issue is just a nice wordplay IMO...

There is no impact on the retained profit as the bonus issue does not involve with cash distribution , the total asset/ values of the Company is diluted by more shares issued after bonus shares given out. Theoretically, the share price would be divided accordingly and more available for market transactions. In the long run, it is easier for price appreciations as share liquidity is increased hence potentially more daily transactions due to lower price per lot . Profit per share is also diluted but it is up to the management to use the retained profit to maintain or not the dividend per share subsequent to the bonus shares issued.

@icedvestor Not quite the same actually.

A bonus issue is an additional share given to existing shareholders while stock split is same share divided into two or more as per the split ratio. Bonus shares are benefited to existing shareholders while both existing shareholders and potential investors can benefit from stock split.
