The steel industry consumes around five to seven million British thermal units (MMBtu) of natural gas for each tonne of steel making/rolling activity. For the average natural gas base tariff revised upwards by RM6.06 per MMBtu, the range of additional cost for 5 to 7 MMBtu is only RM30.3 to RM42.42 per tonne, right?
...I think the marginal increase in cost as a result of the hike in natural gas tariff could be easily passed on to the buyers as it is more costly for the users to source their needs for steel and iron from else where...
Yes, I think the hike in natural gas tariff can be easily absorbed by manufacturer or pass to buyers given that the rebar price in Malaysia is still very cheap. There is still rooms to increase the rebar price. Hike in natural gas tariff should not be a problem to rebar manufacturers.
natural gas price increase affect most to blast furnace, not Masteel, Masteel using a 80 ton/hour elecric arc furnace. Energy consume mostly electricity, oxygen, heavy fuel oil for reheating furnace.
luckily i sold mine last week for 1.57. otherwise would be bleeding very bad. from the trend now, it doesnt look like a good stock to own anymore. goodluck guys.
The steel bar from Masteel is cheaper than China manufacturers. Even increase in the price of gas, the increase in price can be passed on to customer. Masteel can increase the selling price of steel bars. Market sentiment is very bad, hence this bad news affected the stock price of Masteel.
It is always very difficult to invest in bear market.
People always can be so easy to sell off good stock. Lets see Masteel pay USD100mil for scrap import, electrode and etc. Last quarter need pay RM426mil, now only need to pay RM406mil, immediately cost saving 20mil in one quarter. Why want to sell cheap?
friend text me and say hs sifu master O ask add position kau kau..... I told him i wrong timing and added yesterday....now broke a'dy. Can see cannot eat.....lol....
