KUALA LUMPUR (July 17): The Civil Aviation Administration of China has imposed a temporary ban on Thai AirAsia X’s Bangkok-Tianjin flight, after several passengers tested positive for Covid-19 on recent flights.

Thai AirAsia X is a joint venture between AirAsia X Bhd and Thai AirAsia, which is in turn a joint venture between AirAsia Group Bhd and Thai-listed Asia Aviation.

News reports said there were five positive cases on Thai AirAsia X’s XJ808 flight on July 10, which led to the regulator deciding on the one-week ban on Tuesday (July 14).

Meanwhile, six passengers tested positive on a Thai Lion Air flight on July 7.

Due to this, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has planned to enforce a new rule requiring passengers on Thai-owned chartered flights or special flights transitioning through Thailand to have a valid Covid-19 clearance certificate, according to the Bangkok Post.

Quoting CAAT director-general Chula Sukmanop, the publication reported that the new requirement will also apply for flights that make a refuelling stop in Thailand without passengers leaving the aircraft.

This is to prevent Thai airlines from being blacklisted by authorities in destination countries in the event a Covid-19 infection is detected on their flights, said Chula, citing the Thai AirAsia X and Thai Lion Air flights.

The Thai AirAsia X flight originated in Malaysia and was bound for Tianjin, China, before making stops in Manila and Thailand along the way.

The passengers of both flights were reported to have tested positive for the virus at each destination airport.

theedgemarkets.com has contacted the AirAsia group for comments, although the airline has yet to respond at the time of writing.

AirAsia Group’s share price closed unchanged at 73.5 sen, giving a market capitalisation of RM2.46 billion.

AirAsia X closed unchanged at 8.5 sen for market capitalisation of RM352.59 million.

Chinese vaccine candidate effective against all known coronavirus strains: Sinopharm
By Fan Wei Source: Global Times Published: 2020/7/16 16:20:26
15
We are racing with the virus, not the US: Sinopharm president

A Chinese-developed inactivated COVID-19 vaccine candidate is effective against all detected strains of the virus so far, with lower chance and degree of adverse reactions than same-typed vaccine candidates under research, the head of the vaccine candidate's producer told the Global Times in an exclusive interview on Monday.

"The inactivated vaccine we developed can cover all strains of the coronavirus that have been detected so far, including the virus strains tracked in the Xinfadi market in Beijing," Yang Xiaoming, president of China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm), noted in response to public concerns that the vaccine under the R&D process would be ineffective as the virus mutates.

The research team has carried out cross-protection experiments to test if the anti-serum obtained by immunizing animals can produce an immune response to different genotypes of strains of coronavirus, Yang said.

Sinopharm, whose COVID-19 inactivated vaccine candidates have been delivered into phase three clinical trials, have stored more than 4 million doses of the vaccines, the Global Times learned from the group.

Yang said that the group is currently storing more COVID-19 vaccines. Once a candidate is approved for the market, the company will soon be able to provide as many doses of vaccines as the country needs.

Yang estimated that an inactivated COVID-19 vaccine will be available on the market at the end of this year or early 2021. Two inactivated COVID-19 vaccine candidates separately developed by Sinopharm institutes in Beijing and Wuhan entered clinical trials in April.

The results of phase one and two clinical trials of the two candidates were revealed in June, showing that all receptors have created high-titer antibodies.

Skepticism and pessimism of Chinese-developed COVID-19 vaccines have been raised in some Western media, which have exaggerated the side effect ratio reported in early-stage clinical trials of another vaccine candidate, the Ad5-nCoV recombinant novel coronavirus vaccine.

Vaccine experts advised the public not to panic over the side effects revealed in the preliminary results of the Chinese-developed coronavirus vaccine, as the adverse reactions exposed are tolerable and the vaccine is under constant optimization.

Yang also reveals that more than 1,000 Sinopharm group employees have been receiving injections on a voluntary basis, and the results show a promising trend that the vaccine is safe and effective, with low incidence and degree of adverse reactions.

At the end of May, 180 volunteers from Sinopharm received inactivated COVID-19 vaccinations, and their antibodies have reached levels resistant to the coronavirus with a 100 percent protective rate.

On June 23, Sinopharm signed agreements with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government to conduct COVID-19 vaccine candidate phase three clinical trials in the country, the world's first COVID-19 vaccine candidate phase three clinical trials to have been launched.

China's National Medical Products Administration on Thursday stressed the need to promote the development and marketing of COVID-19 vaccines, and take the initiative to help pharmaceutical companies resume work and production.

As China and the US have been given great hopes on providing panacea for the coronavirus, their respective vaccine R&D pace has drawn much media attention. Some have called the vaccine development "a race between two countries currently caught in strained ties."

Leading US medical expert Anthony Fauci expressed his confidence in prospects for the US vaccine on Wednesday, and said he does not expect China to win the vaccine race, Reuters reported.

"The COVID war between the US and China is looking like a race to the moon. Being first to develop COVID treatments and vaccines has become a point of national pride," Lawrence Gostin, the director of Georgetown University's O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, was quoted as saying in the report of Business Insider. "A 'my country first' attitude is highly counterproductive. We need to work cooperatively as a global and scientific community."

"We are racing with the coronavirus but not with the US [to be the first with successful vaccine]", Yang argued, claiming that all their efforts are part of China's commitment to make the vaccine available to the international community.

Yang said he hopes to see Chinese-developed vaccines against coronavirus accessible and affordable for developing countries when they turn out. He expects further global cooperation in COVID-19 vaccine trials to help stop the pandemic that has infected millions.

KUALA LUMPUR (July 17): Thai AirAsia X confirms that China has issued a seven-day suspension on its flights following the discovery of confirmed COVID-19 infections on board its XJ808 flight from Don Mueang to Tianjin on July 10.

In a statement, Thai AirAsia X said it is working closely with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) following the suspension.

"Thai AirAsia X would like to reiterate that all of its flights to China are operated with strict compliance to CAAC standards. All passengers on board the said flight have undergone all required checks and provided relevant documents, including health certificates, confirming their COVID-19 status as negative.

“The said flight was on a short transit in Don Mueang International Airport from Kuala Lumpur, carrying Chinese nationals returning to China. The initial flight code for the Kuala Lumpur to Don Mueang flight is XJ 325. All passengers were not allowed to disembark from the aircraft during the transit in Don Mueang with strict compliance to all aviation regulations and health protocols," it said.

“Passengers on board XJ808 were subjected to another health screening upon arrival in Tianjin according to local policy and five passengers were confirmed positive for COVID-19. Thai AirAsia X continues to fully cooperate with all relevant authorities for this matter,” it added.

Prior to this, Thailand's local media reported that the CAAC had imposed a temporary ban on Thai AirAsia X’s Bangkok-Tianjin flights after several passengers tested positive for COVID-19 on a recent flight. It was also reported that the XJ808 flight had made stops in Manila and Thailand before arriving in China.

Positive COVID-19 cases were also found on a recent flight operated by Thai Lion Air, which took off from Jakarta for Guangzhou and made a stop at Don Mueang airport.

Following these incidents, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) had enforced a new rule requiring passengers on Thai-owned chartered flights or special flights transitioning through Thailand to have a valid COVID-19 clearance certificate, according to the Bangkok Post.

Quoting CAAT director-general Chula Sukmanop, the publication wrote that the new requirement would also apply on flights that make a refuelling stop in Thailand without passengers leaving the aircraft.

This was to prevent Thai airlines from being blacklisted by authorities in destination countries in the event a COVID-19 infection is detected on their flights, said Chula, citing the Thai AirAsia X and Thai Lion Air flights as examples.

Thai AirAsia X is a joint venture between AirAsia X Bhd and Thai AirAsia, which is in turn a joint venture between AirAsia Group Bhd and Thai-listed Asia Aviation PCL.

AirAsia X shares ended the day unchanged at 8.5 sen today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM352.59 million. AirAsia’s shares also settled unchanged at 73.5 sen, valuing it at RM2.46 billion.

SINGAPORE, July 17 (Reuters): Philippine shares were set for a second straight weekly drop on Friday following a surge in Covid-19 cases in the country, while the Indonesian rupiah weakened as uncertainty over future monetary policy dented investor sentiment.

After a bout of bargain buying on Thursday, the Manila benchmark index resumed declines to fall nearly 1%, as the country reported its biggest daily spike in coronavirus infections in more than a week.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday retained partial quarantine measures in the capital of Manila for two weeks until the end of July, but warned that stricter curbs would be reinstated if the rise in new cases and deaths did not slow.

Foreign investors dumped Philippine shares worth US$64.7 million as of Thursday, after a US$114.9 million sell-off last week, according to exchange data. Among Asian currencies, the rupiah was the worst hit, falling to a near two-month low, a day after the central bank cut interest rates for the fourth time this year. Shares in Jakarta were down about 0.3%.

After reducing its benchmark interest rate to 4%, Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo said there would be no inflationary impact from a bond-buying scheme announced earlier this month, while stressing the importance of both fiscal and monetary levers to revive growth.

Some analysts said that pointed to more cuts in rates.

"While the burden sharing scheme could benefit Indonesia's economy, there is fear that the central government wouldn't be able to realise its planned spending," said Anthony Kevin, an economist at Mirae Asset Sekuritas Indonesia.

"This is why market participants were also looking for clues regarding the possibility of another rate cut."

In Thailand, the baht hovered near six-week lows, with investors growing concerned about the government's fiscal response to the coronavirus crisis following the resignation of finance chief Uttama Savanayana and two other ministers.

"Some of the USD/THB selling in the last hour may be some profit taking and potentially owing to the fact that this surge in volatility could see increased scrutiny from the central bank," said Jingyi Pan, market strategist at IG Asia. Offering some relief, Thailand's central bank said on Thursday it expected headline inflation to recover to 1%-3% in the second quarter of 2021 after an expected minus 1.7% this year

Malaysian stocks were the top performers, advancing over 1%, driven primarily by gains in Top Glove Corp, the world's largest medical glove maker, which rose 16%.

US Customs on Wednesday placed a detention order on imports of products made by the company's units, but the company said it hoped to resolve the issue in two weeks and the surge in global demand meant it would be able to sell its product elsewhere. - Reuters

“Kita lihat kebimbangan sesetengah pihak bahawa mungkin akan datang gelombang kedua Covid-19. Sekiranya gelombang kedua berlaku, saya rasa ini mungkin akan menjadi satu pukulan maut kepada ekonomi kita semua.

Covid-19 is here to stay forever like diabetes, high blood pressure, dengue, malaria, tuberculosis and many more deadly diseases. Authorities and some segment of the population are trying to dictate life to calm their fear of death.

The moment you are born, countdown to death began ticking. The only thing CERTAIN in life is DEATH and none can avoid it. Stop worrying and messing yours and others life.

President Trump banned 5G technology - Koon Yew Yin - Koon Yew Yin's Blog | I3investor

President Trump banned 5G technology - Koon Yew Yin
Author: Koon Yew Yin Publish date: Fri, 17 Jul 2020, 7:06 PM

US banned Huawei 5G technology. Huawei is the world's No. 1 telecom supplier and No. 2 phone manufacturer, but it's a pariah in countries like the US. Unfortunately, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, like an obedient dog wants to follow Trump to ban Huawei 5G networking equipment despite Huawei phone’s massive presence around the world. The US continues to pressure allies to block Huawei from their next-generation 5G wireless networks. In July, the UK opted to ban Huawei from its 5G infrastructure. The company's gear must be removed by 2027.

Donald Trump and Boris Johnson are so ignorant as they did not realise how much this new technology can help the people and the nations improve economically. Trump does not care as long as he can bash China to win more votes for his re-election in November. Unfortunately, most Americans also like to degrade China. All Americans and British people should open their eyes to read the following to know more about 5G technology.

What is 5G technology?

The new, faster standard will make possible what is frequently called the Internet of Things—the wireless connection of everyday items to allow data on them to be collected, analysed, and manipulated. These items could be anything, including mundane household appliances, farm equipment, watches and clocks, water mains, various robots, hospital devices, and even the computers and machines used by businesses and emergency services—all could be networked together, accessed, and monitored online. 5G will enable self-driving cars to communicate with each other and with traffic monitoring systems—potentially preventing accidents by reacting up to 200 times faster than human drivers. There is a world of possibilities and potential just waiting for the mind of man to explore it.

The big focus of 5G enthusiasm is about the vast increase in computing capabilities that will result from massive improvements in communication and extraordinary amounts of data transfer. Experts believe these developments may have the potential to generate a new Industrial Revolution, producing jobs and boosting national economies. Estimates suggest that in the next few years we could see literally millions of 5G base stations on Earth and 20,000 new 5G satellites in low Earth orbit, connected to 200 billion transmitting objects.

Wider rollout of 5G, however, is going to take significant investment and time before it reaches our neighbourhoods. Compared to 4G signals, which blanket the airwaves in all directions, 5G, at frequencies of 10 to 300GHz (gigahertz) and a one-millimetre wavelength, is unable to pass through buildings or trees and can even be disrupted by rainfall. To overcome these difficulties, 5G phased-array base antennas, transmitting multiple narrow, steerable, high-power signals, need to be positioned just 200 metres apart in a grid. The same antennas in all 5G devices, either stationary or moving, will seek to establish a continuous connection with the base antennas. Existing legislation will permit these signals to be at least ten times more powerful (up to 20 watts) than current 4G signals.

Ha...KYY can understand better than those pariah n lapdogs...!!!
