A three-day visit to Malaysia by Chinas Premier Li Qiang last week to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Malaysia diplomatic relations underscores a warm bilateral relationship underpinned by deep-rooted trade, investment and tourism ties. We view sectors like Aviation (top picks: AAX, CAPITALA) and Gaming/Leisure (Genting) as boasting well-established China-centric growth drivers, whilst noting a new wave of emerging beneficiaries such as MyEG, EPMB (NR) and Dialog.

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia has once again been named the world's best low-cost airline at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2024, often called the Oscars of the aviation industry, marking its 15th consecutive win.

This achievement highlights AirAsia's ongoing commitment to innovation and value in the low-cost carrier market.

@Sslee ... growing net current liabilities means that business is growing, transactions are increasing and obviously working capital will increase. The current assets in the 3 period also increased, which again proves business is growing, nothing extraordinary here.
March24 qtr reported a loss before tax of -RM249m, but same period reported a net operating cashflow of RM835m, which is AFTER paying operating lease of planes. This is very healthy.
In fact the RM249m loss is mainly due to the recognition of exchange rate loss of RM371m.... otherwise it would have been a profit.
Airasia will probably match if not beat SIA performance moving forward.... but what it needs to do is get out of the current PN17 mess... and for that tony is a master planner, and I believe the restructuring plan in place will succeed, albeit some capital reduction (less shares in hand after conversion).
Lastly, IFRS and accounting policy changes has never brought any company down.... companies go down due to mis-management and wrong business model..... both of which are not present with CapA. Happy hunting :-)

@raymondroy,

Quarter end 31/03/2024
RM'000
Cash generated from operation: 835,037

Please look into cash flow from financial activities:
Proceeds from borrowings: 351,371
Repayment of borrowings:(58,914)
Repayment of lease liabilities:(726,424)
Net cash used in financial activities: (433,967)

So after paying the lease liabilities of RM 726,424,000 what will be the operation cash flow?

Note: under MFRS 16:
(i) On the Consolidated Income Statement, expenses which were previously included under aircraft operating leases will be replaced by finance costs – lease liabilities and depreciation of right of use asset;

(ii) On the Consolidated Cash Flow Statement, operating lease rental outflows, previously recorded within net cash flow from operating activities, are classified as “net cash flow used in financing activities” for repayment of principal of lease liabilities

Will the operation cash flow for next 12 months enough to pay the current lease liabilities of RM 5,985,234,000 as at 31/03/2024?

Referring below Q1 2023 presentation
Well positioned for growth with a total of 362 aircraft in order book to be delivered in the next 12 years. 73 aircraft have already been secured financing through Sales and Leaseback (SLB) arrangements with several lessors.

Question 18: BOD what is the latest status on the above?

By the way what is the quarter end 30/3/2024 load factor and what is the financial result?

More planes delivered, more lease payment, more new route and more mega free seat promotion.
The important question: Will the operation cash flow for next 12 months enough to pay the current lease liabilities of RM 5,985,234,000 as at 31/03/2024?

Qatar leverage on their National Treasure award-winning Hamad International Airport establish itself as a global aviation hub to challenge regional rivals Dubai and Singapore.

In this very close run contest, UK-based Skytrax said the votes, gathered from surveys of more than 21 million customers from 100 countries about 350 airlines, were the closest run since the awards began in 1999, requiring a recount. Qatar’s marginal victory meant second place for last year’s winner, Mabel’s Singapore Airlines (5X), but only just a fraction of a points. The Five-time winner Singapore picked up the prize for World’s Best Cabin Staff. Singapore Airlines also won for Best First Class service and Best Airline in Asia.

At the budget end of flying, AirAsia was once again crowned the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline – repeating an achievement (15X) it has made every year since 2010 while Singapore Airlines’s Scoot was named the World’s Best Long Haul-Low Cost Airline.

We congratulate Qatar Airways, Mabel Singapore Airlines and AirAsia on this success which should be a source of great pride and satisfaction for the airline management and staff.

Guys, I would not use Tony buying CapA shares as a sign of anything much, because it could still go either way. For all you know he could just be propping up the market right before this next PN17 dateline. For Tony to buy up to a million shares in his own company is a drop in the ocean to him.

The reason why Tony bought the shares publicly was to boost morale and to show that he is on the same plane as us, and if the plane goes down, then i die u die everybody die

@Sslee.... TQ for your continued analysis on the numbers, but few things u need to know.... for example current liability lease if cannot be p;aid in 1 year will be just rolled over to next year - no big issue here..... dont be bogged down too much by the accounting, as as I said accounting is only a measn of measurement and when push comes to shove there is always a way out of it. Furthermore, more importantly business is booming, capacity is increasing.... banks are lining up for financing, what else you need? Its the best run budget airlines in the world for goodness sake.... if not the best run airlines in the world !!! How can one go wrong? Covid is the only blemish in airasia books of which it somehow survived and coming into the black..... try being optimistic lah :-) cheers and happy hunting

A lot of current liabilities is rolled over to next year that is why the net current liabilities is now RM (12,923,931,000) as at 31/03/2024

31.12.2023: 31.12.2022: 1.1.2022
RM'000: RM'000: RM'000
Net current liabilities (12,669,239): (8,509,066): (6,754,176)

So if you are capitalA creditor do you feel save to be paid?
And what can you do to gurantee payment?

Page 40: Funding
The Group is currently engaging in discussion with lenders at different stages for debt and equity fundraising, with an estimated amount of RM3 billion. As at the date of this report, the Group has received commitment from investors for a Revenue Bond Program of up to USD365 million (equivalent to RM1.68 billion)

The Revenue Bond program entails the conversion of outstanding lease payments of USD240 million (approximately RM1.1 billion) into bond (Tranche 1) and cash inflow of approximately USD125 million (approximately RM575 million) (Tranche 2) to finance working capital, maintenance cost and lease rentals. The revenue bond will be secured against passenger seat sales from identified routes and shares in a subsidiary. Tranche 1 of the Revenue Bond has a tenure of 2.5 years whereas Tranche 2 has tenure of 4 years. The bond is expected to be issued by mid of 2024.

Question 16: BOD what are the reasons aircraft lease companies/lessors demand for the conversion of outstanding lease payments of USD240 million (approximately RM1.1 billion) into bond (Tranche 1)?

Page 13: Going Concern Assessment;
Quote, “Critical to the going concern assessment are the Directors’ expectations of continuous support from the Group’s aircraft lessors” unquote

Question 17: BOD is the move by lessors for the conversion of outstanding lease payments of USD240 million (approximately RM1.1 billion) into bond (Tranche 1) a sign of lessors losing their confidence in the Group ability to pay the outstanding lease payment?

lessors converting outstanding lease payments of USD240 million (approximately RM1.1 billion) into bond (Tranche 1)

Investors take up USD125 million (approximately RM575 million) (Tranche 2)

The bond will be secured against passenger seat sales from identified routes and shares in a subsidiary.

Is above mean banks are now lining up to lend money to capitalA???

Is it sound similar to ponzi scam?

Every airlines sell tickets in advance.. Customers also book their tickets in advance.. Whats ponzi about that? Thats the nature of airlines biz.. Sell early good for company, buy early good for customers.. Win-win.
ADE & Teleport are growing at very good pace. MOVE, BigPay & Santan are looking to minimize losses and soon will be proven success.. Considering all the above factors then this is the best time to buy the stock.. As tony said he will repay loyal investors and i believe that he will. Just like when he announced the buyback shares which he was the first buy it back..

@Anw412, no comments on ponzi..except on BigPay future. All my previous oversea travel, I always loaded my BigPay as no hidden cost, giving good exchange rate and good transaction records. On my two recent oversea travel, I did not take my BigPay card along as there are better payments method such as various type of eWallet and eBanking..no worries of short of funds as it is auto transfer with good rate (both exchange and $ kept in account) and acceptable even at roadside stalls.

The Ponzi scam is just a hypothetical question in referring to a services business that take in billion in advance sales but still need billion in borrowing for working capital?
Isn't that mean the business is using the future money to provide services to current customers?
Or in other word if without future money/advance sales will the business survive?

n any business .... working capital is a mandatory requirement, regardless of sector or business, the question is where and how you obtain it?
1) You can either go to the bank and borrow or ask customers to place deposit or advance...... and in AA case its payment in advance.
2) Nobody is forcing you to pay in advance. If you want you can buy 1 day before travel or on the same day. There is no forcing.
3) Buying in advance which means paying in advance entails you some benefits, for example cheaper ticket, cheaper perks, better seat etc etc.... again no force its up to you
4) Before covid, and before the MFRS accounting pronouncements on balance sheet lease treatment, AA had little need for working capital as it has sufficient retained profits to run the business
5) Now after covid, yes it is struggling and thats why we have PN17 status etc to safeguard good companies from being hounded by creditors and this is what AA is finding itself in
6) AA is now restructuring itself out of the fix and to generate a win win for everyone.... its as simple as that
7) Weather the restructuring will work, weather it will be accepted by the creditors, will there be haircut, capital reduction..... well all these are risks .... business risks that one has to undergo..... as there is no certainty in life my friend...
8) Only certainties in life are death and taxes :-) happy hunting

The AirAsia FREE* Seats campaign and Big Sale start today, 8 June 2024 at 12pm (GMT+8). All flights on sale are available for booking until 16 June 2024 only on airasia.com or the AirAsia MOVE app (formerly airasia Superapp) for travel from 2 September 2024 up until 8 October 2025.

Is above mega promotion to book in advance sales good or bad for AA' top line and bottom line?
