Some people are undecided on whether to buy KPS today or after ex-dividend on 14 May......

So, is it an advantage or disadvantage to buy today??

Today 13 May, shareholders who bought the stock today or earlier will be entitled to the special dividend of 32.6 sens

Tomorrow 14 May, KPS stock price will be adjusted down by 33 sens (rounding up) based on today's closing stock price of KPS to exclude the special dividend quantum because it becomes "ex-dividend" already.


PROS & CONS

Scenario 1: Buy by today, 13 May
+ Gets the dividend of 32.6
- Dividend only receive on 28 May 2019
- Stock price will be adjusted down by 33 sens (rounding up)
+ May benefit from any price surge above the adjusted opening price on 14 May 2019

Scenario 2: Buy on 14 May
- Do not get dividend of 32.6 sens
+ Stock price will be adjusted down by 33 sens (rounding up)
+ Pay lower brokerage fees and stamp duty due to lower stock price
- May not be able to buy at the adjusted price on 14 May 2019 because price may goes up

yip_8988, we buy the stock because we are interested in the company and think that the company can do better in future. We normally use the dividend to buy more stocks with the cheaper x-price, to increase our share amount in the company.
