1c profit can give me a return trip to Australia. Why not? Again, average down the cost of shares is best strategy for strong cash solid stock like YTL groups... buy n sell n buy back doesn't really work for YTL group of shares...

Hng33, beware of 'bias confirmation'. I.e. only accept the news/article in line with holding position. And simply ignore the 'negetive' news/article not in sync with the holding position.

KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Power International Bhd’s future earnings are poised to come under pressure following a recent ruling in the United Kingdom on its water services industry, said a local rating agency.

RAM Ratings pointed out that the Water Services Regulation Authority recently published a guidance that set the rate of return that companies can earn on their water assets at 3.85 per cent over the next five-year regulatory period.

Additionally, extra pressure is envisaged to come from retail competition in the sector in 2017.

“However, these plans are now under development and will only be finalised in January 2015,” the agency said in a statement yesterday when reaffirming YTL Power Generation Sdn Bhd’s (YTLPG) RM1.3 billion medium term notes programme 2003/2014.

YTLPG, a unit of YTL Power, is an independent power producer and the indirect owner of Wessex Water Services Ltd, a water and sewerage company in the UK, following the company’s acquisition of YTL Utilities Ltd from YTL Power.

Meanwhile, RAM said its rating reflected YTLPG’s strong business profile as its power business is protected from demand risk by its power purchase agreement with Tenaga Nasional Bhd.

The company’s monopolistic water and sewerage business in the UK, which operates through a perpetual concession under a stable and transparent regulatory regime, is also another factor that led to the rating reaffirmation.

“Both businesses boast commendable operating track records,” it noted.

RAM also said YTLPG, being a wholly-owned subsidiary of YTL Power, is the latter’s key revenue and profit generator, contributing to about 22 and 63 per cent of the group’s revenue and profit,

respectively, in the last financial year ended June 30 2013.

“On this account, the credit profiles of the company and YTL Power are viewed as closely linked.

Any deterioration in YTLPG’s credit profile would have a negative impact on that of the latter’s (and vice-versa),” RAM added.

Noted, the rate of return that companies can earn on their water assets at 3.85 per cent over the next five-year regulatory period !!?? that is very severe adverse impact on YTLP wessex water earning. Wessex water currently is the biggest earning contributor, and its pretax profit margin now command as much as 28.2% and contribute about 60% of YTLP total earning, it will be significant downward earning margin if the UK regulator set limit as low as 3.85%. However, these plans are now under development and will only be finalized in January 2015,

As portfolio have sold wb at 61 sen (cost 66.5sen)yesterday (thought to realize paper loss first and wanna to buyback on weakness and yet to buyback, it will be good opportunity to buyback if share on weakness back again.

current rate for wessex if i'm not mistaken is 5.1% so if the 3.85% is to be implement in 4/2015 then it's a reduction of around 20%. But the final decision is in 1/2015 so no need to worry lah & this news is not new lah ..... they already know the 3.85% issue in jan or fed 2014. The share price might already account this already & if it not then might not be now lah(except panic selling from the small fish)... but pay attention in any indication from uk gov or in 1/2015 loh... just my opinion.

Seem YTLP share react negatively over U.K revise to set the rate of return on their water assets at 3.85 per cent over the next five-year regulatory period. It will severely impact Wesses water, wholly own subsidiary and biggest earning contributor of YTLP. Need to wait for clearer information before opt to buyback

I'm now adopting shorter investment horizon now instead of longer term. I expecting YTLP earning to achieve peak level these year (breakeven and recognize maiden earning from Yes broadband + 1BestariNet) before face downward pressure next year (Wessex water and expire IPP)

It's nothing wrong, if you sold @61c and then buyback @55 - 55.5.

To me, it just doesn't make sense, in a matter of day, giving all kind of reasons just to justified the action taken.

Remember I've always say. 'Bias Confirmation'.

If you check back my posting correctly, I decided to sold and cut loss on wb at 61sen (cost 66.5sen, thought to buyback later on weakness) was day before the news in regard to UK limit ROA for water aesst were publish in Theedge and BST. I also sold YTL at 1.69 (share + Share dividend, realize profit) more more earlier than wb.

After the news is out, pointed by RAM rating and the potential impact on YTLP earning next year, then i decided to wait little longer, and await for further share weakness before buyback them.

Overall, YTLP have negative and positive news

Positive (2014)
1. Breakeven and recognize maiden earning from Yes broadband + 1BestariNet
2. Bid upcoming track 4A, gas fire power plant
3. Potential KL-Singapore high speed train under build, operate and transfer model
4. Appreciation currency SGD and Pond against RM

Negative (2015)
1. Expire and non-renewal local IPP on Sept 2015
2. limit ROA for water assets in UK, margin pressure on Wessex water, the actual rate only will confirm before 1 Jab 2015

Posted by calvinwky168 > 2014-04-18 11:46 | Report Abuse

there's another positive most are forgeting here.
ERL extension to KLIA2.
Whether will contribute significantly or otherwise to bottomline of YTLPo, remains to be seen.
How many will travel to KLIA2 by ERL?
Keys are competitive pricing of the ticket and marketing efforts.
