Basically, CEOs have 5 choices for deploying capital
1. investing in existing operations
2 acquiring other businesses
3 issuing dividends
4 paying down debt
5 share buybacks
Sometimes the best investment opportunity is buying own shares. In fact, the CEOs need to do 2 things to be successful: run their operations efficiently and deploy cash generated by those operations. Capital allocation is a CEO's most important job. Large share buybacks are still very foreign in Msia and therefore, local research houses have not commented on it. It requires extreme patience but the rewards will come.one day!!

1. investing in existing operations

The huge capex of RM 2.5 bilion has already spent and completed 1 BestariNet project in Sept.

2 acquiring other businesses

Invest to invest in Jordan oil shale, have 30% stake and likely commence operation in 2015

3 issuing dividends

Cash opt for share buyback rather than paying out cash dividend

4 paying down debt

Most of the debt is non-recourse and secure by self financing from concession cash flow, which hedge naturally by localize debt based on respective business station

5 share buybacks

The main purposed for share buybacks is for cancellation later to reduce total number of share, which lead to increase earning per share.

To hng 33

Thanks for all your examples given to each of the capital allocation strategies. You are the one person that truly understands the intrinsic value of YTLP. Good on ya! Not many people understand the full impact of the capital deployment and allocation strategies adopted by YTLP. The financial community has not been able to quantify the intrinsic value of 1Bestarinet & YES, and appreciate share buybacks.

YTLP share buy back maybe us a planning for future, we all know the power contract in malaysia is going to end on 2015... very soon.. Buying back own share now could reduce the impact of it. who knows?

I think the seller most from new listed warrant converted share. Just lets them take profit. 15m share already almost half absorbed

Once these warrant converted share investor sold off their 15m share to YTLP sbb. It will really hard for them to capitalize on arbitrary gap anymore. The is closing now

'son not attractive anymore' If you refer no discount, then its just back to normal trading. Its wire for son trading at discount, given its still have 5 year tenure and leverage 3x.

I think is good sign, allowing son and mum to follow more closely.

just a wild guess again, they (15m) sell mum and buy son, that show some support at son right now. maybe aiming for another conversion !?

hng33,
I am getting the hang of it. I can feel its doable. I started making money since 2009. Proton was my 1st big break. Was able to get about 2 years of my annual income. But had to hold on from 2009-2012.
Then made about a year of my annual salary through Puncak ( end 2012 - Now).

Not sure if its luck.. ahaha..
