TNB is a very solid and profitable company for long term investment and dividend income. Should not worry about short term weakness in share price. Rather opportunity to accumulate more if still have surplus funds or shift from other counters.

It is better to be cautious with this counter.
If one has bought on 4th August 2016 it was @ 14.40.
If you have kept it until today it is 9.63. A loss in capital of 4.76. (appx 33 %) loss.
Displays 5 years price downward trend.
Even if you add all the dividends earned, I guess there will be a loss of 10%.
Dividends are good, but, it could be a trap. Can one classify this as a long term stock?
Short term buy/sell ok, but it is speculation.
What do the sifus here think?

If you had bought Tenaga for 14.40 in Aug 2016 you would have received a total of 3.206 in dividends since then, so your net cost after crediting dividends would be 11.19 today. You have lost your shirt, at todays price of 9.67 you have lost 1.52 a share, not to mention loss of capital value thru inflation say 5 years at 3% per annum, say 15% or 2.16 and also less brokers fees etc.

If you have put you money on FD at that time you would have got 4.25% for 5 year FD. your 14.40 would earned 3.06 so your 14.40 would now be worth 17.46 (excluding compounding). Instead its worth 9.67 a loss of 7.79 a share. Sad but true.

But if you buy now at 9.67 who is to say what it will be worth in 5 years time?

Yes, the div trap argument is totally valid but it also depends on your cost and if the company can continue to consistently pay high div. At 9.67 and a div yield of more than 8%, I don't think the trap works anymore. Happy and savvy investing. Cheers.

As i have mentioned, there is a 5 year price downward trend. possibly due to dilution.
Not the best management etc. High dividends and 'Monopoly' element is keeping investors hooked...my guess.

Those who are in it for the short term, may be the wise ones. I don't know. I may be wrong.

@choysun - you are right, It appreciated for few months and peaked at 16.20 on 2 April 2018, but long term investors usually disregard such fluctuations in the short term. My comments were confined to the 5 yrs long term investor returns only.
