👉2000 MW RE from Australia

Hoho very interesting lo to do an illustration:

( Australian company Sun Cable plans to build a 12,400-hectare solar farm and transport electricity to the northern Australian city of Darwin via an 800-kilometer (497-mile) overhead transmission line, then on to large-scale industrial customers in Singapore through a 4,300-kilometer (2,672-mile) submarine cable.)

> 4,300 km x USD 2.5 million per km = USD 10,750 million = USD 10.75 Billion.

Question : LTMS RE power supply agreement signed on 2022 , but is cancelled due to Singapore not agreed on the inter-connector upgrading cost . Maybe another risk is on Laos - Thailand - Malaysia- Singapore power grid differences n involved 4 parties.

Australia- Indonesia- Singapore involved 3 parties.

And on cost compared to TNB RM 90.0 Billion Capex from 2025 to 2030 .

> PublicInvest upgrades TNB to 'outperform', expects capex to increase by RM1b to RM2b yearly to meet data centre power demand
By Isabelle Francis / theedgemalaysia

19 Jul 2024, 11:15 am

KUALA LUMPUR (July 19): Tenaga Nasional Bhd (KL:TENAGA) or TNB is expected to keep increasing its capital expenditure (capex) beyond 2030, with an additional RM1 billion to RM2 billion a year, to maintain its power grid infrastructure, which recently hit new peak demand due to data centres, said PublicInvest Research.

The additional capex is on top of TNB’s committed RM90 billion for six years until 2030, to support energy transition initiatives and system upgrades.

Singapore carbon tax rate currently at S$5/tCO2e is set to rise progressively till 2030:

2024 - 2025 : S$25/tCO2e
2026 – 2027 : S$45/tCO2e
2028 – 2030 : S$50 – S$80/tCO2e

Is YTL Seraya Power ready for energy transition from fossil fuels (majority in natural gas) to clean Energy?

What is the plan?

If following Singapore government's road map, in future the renewable energy will be imported from neighbouring countries like Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia and even Australia.

What is the role of YTL's Seraya Power in the future? Can transition into renewable energy provider or close shop or paying more Carbon Tax? Anyone know what is the plan?

After spending 2.8 Billion ringgit to build 600 MW hydrogen ready plant. YTL Seraya total capacity 3100 MW. So need total 14.4 billion to convert into zero emission power plant, is my calculation correct?

Hoho from Vietnam?? Last year Northern Vietnam Hot season : May , June n July facing shortages of Power Supply ( Not RE electricity) , want to get power supply from Laos .

—/

The country also aims to boost solar capacity to 2GW to 4GW of interconnections to import clean electricity from neighboring countries like Vietnam and Indonesia, which is in line with its green plan. Renewable generation is projected to increase from 4% in 2022 to 40% by 2035.

YTL Power’s dividend strategy reflects the nature of capex-intensive industries like utilities. As mentioned, while the dividend yield might seem low, the company’s focus on reinvesting earnings into growth has driven significant share price appreciation, which benefits long-term investors. For novice investors, understanding this balance is crucial: you may not get high immediate returns through dividends, but a strategic hold can result in capital gains.

Moreover, for those managing diverse portfolios and tracking such growth, exploring reliable tools like mobile editing apps can help keep financial records and presentations well-organized.

Hi Jonathan, yes still a oil fired power plant.

Because the turbine generates rotary motion, it can be coupled to a generator to harness its motion into electricity. Such turbogenerators are the core of thermal power stations which can be fueled by fossil fuels, nuclear fuels, geothermal, or solar energy. About 42% of all electricity generation in the United States in the year 2022 was by use of steam turbines.

Combined cycle plants are usually powered by natural gas, although fuel oil, synthesis gas or other fuels can be used. The supplementary fuel may be natural gas, fuel oil, or coal. Biofuels can also be used.

Power Generation
YTL PowerSeraya’s core power generation business has a licensed capacity of 2,047.7MW. The majority of our power plant assets sit on Jurong Island, of which currently 99% of the power generated comes from natural gas, the least carbon intensive fossil fuel.

Natural gas still a fossil fuel, it is not a zero emissions energy. Still have to pay Singapore government a huge amount of Carbon tax in the future.

I don't see the what is YTLP's futute plan except that 600MW hydrogen ready power plant a whopping 2.8 billion Capex for just 600MW!

Hoho Jaks impairment losses on trade n other receivables:

The contract value of the Vietnam EPC contract is USD454.5 million and the cumulative revenue recognised is RM1.7 billion as stated in the 2020 annual report which indicates a balance order book of RM184 millions. There is a discrepancy of more than RM100m when compared to the amount shown in the webinar presentation slide. Please provide the USD equivalent of the total revenue recognised.

- The total accumulated revenue recognised until FY2020 was at USD410.6 million, which represents a substantial profit of the contract since the project is at tail end.

3.
As reported by Affin Hwang that the engineer has yet to sign off the work done despite the powerplant achieving fully COD. Is it true that the power plant was having some boiler problems in Q1 2021, hence causing the power plant to be operating at less than full capacity? Has this affected the capacity payment in Q1FY2020?

- The remaining parts of the unsigned work relates civil works under the EPC2 package, which do not directly affect the capacity output of the plant.

- It is normal for minor issues to be encountered in any course of operations. The EPC1 contractor has rectified the problems as it is still under their warranty period.

-The power plant has started operating and producing electricity and generated revenues.

Jaks

Environmental impact

As of February 2020, a permit application for the plant's slag disposal site had not yet been approved.[13]

In April 2023, JAKS was fined 210 million VND and required to return an additional 1.86 billion VND in profits for the illegal use of protected forest land since early 2019.

Singapore will still depend on local power generation for security reason and the cleaner fuel for power generation is natural gas or hygrogen produce from green energy.

Unlike jaks JHDP most dirty coal power plant, a policy change will phase out the plant moreover BOT mean at the end of BOT plant need to tranfer back to Vietnam government in working condition or need money to dismantle and return back the land to its original condition.

While YTLpower own the power plant and the land and thus is allowed to renew/rebuild any power plant sit on it if plant become obsolete or no more economically to operate or available of new technology.

Hoho Vietnam PDP8 key sentences that Shl benefits Jaks :

1.) After 2030, Vietnam would not develop any new coal-fired power plants, and active plants that are 20 years or older will begin transitioning to biomass or ammonia. Plants over 40 years old that cannot achieve this fuel switch will be retired.

2.) Vietnam also aims to install rooftop solar on half of all office buildings and homes by 2030, ultimately generating up to 189 GW by 2050. In a press release on May 16, 2023, the government stated "[f]rom now until 2025, there is no limit to the capacity of rooftop solar power development provided that the prices are reasonable and the existing transmission network is not overloaded."1.

👉 Vietnam previously experienced a boom in solar development in 2019 and 2020, but much of the electricity could not be delivered to the grid without transmission and other capacity upgrades. PDP8's planned investments in transmission and distribution infrastructure could alleviate these issues and bolster Vietnam's transition to rely more heavily on renewable energy sources.

Favourable factors:
1) Dow Jones + 462 points
2) Nasdaq + 258 points
( Friday 23-08-2024 closing)
3) Imminent US rate cut in September 2024
4) Stable government with capable leadership of our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim
5) Expectation of influx of funds looking for solid heavy counters and YTL Power could be one of them and most importantly due to our stable government and Malaysia becomes a safe haven for local and foreign investors.
6) YTL Power's spectacular quarter results at 30-06-2024

Unfavorable factors:
1) Escalation of Middle East war
2) Rise of oil price due to Middle East war.

The rest is up to the Bursa Market forces to react .
