And Looks like MCO will definitely be extended again. Until we get to grasp with the 5 million migrant workers Indonesia Myanmar Bangladesh etc we have no way to curb the fast spreading Virus. Opening up without the mass testing done on them is suicidal. We will become like NYC exponential statistics without the lockdown on their movements. That's why Spore is going all out to achieve the highest number of tested migrants even if it means getting higher numbers of infected patients to deal with and to isolate and quarantine. What are we doing in comparison?

Posted by 靓女 phoon phoon > 2020-04-27 16:38 | Report Abuse

Umbrella Corp,Singapore is also doing targeted testing. The fact that all their migrant workers are legally entered into Singapore and they are housed in dormitories make it easier to locate them.

In Malaysia, we have problems of illegal migrants. How you expect KKM to catch them when they are scattered here and there. What KKM is doing now is laudable because they are doing targeted screening for the migrants at the pasar borong, Menara one and Selangor mansion....

We cannot apply the same method due to different in logistic reasons. I can also say Singapore has overlooked the seriousness of these migrant workers because they only took action after the numbers infected became too big.

Why don't they do mass screening earlier when these migrants can be easily located? There was one case reported in CNA, where the Bangladesh worker was turned down twice from the clinic and hospital when he became sick. He went on to mustafa center and got the whole building lock downed.

Please try to see the point as the grass is not always greener the other end.

As long as got people infected, is it MCO won't lifted? While All MP can survive because no matter what happen, they're can get a salaries. But ordinary people cannot. Many company is in trouble now. Many people don't have job now. Big company like Berjaya, Tan Choong, Airasia and many more is in crisis now. Why until now we didn't hear any exit plan?? This is democracy country. All decision must open and transparent. We have the rights to know. Don't hide please.

And why on earth...patient went for screening on 18th...but tested positive only on 25th. Does KMM take seven days to get the results? During the 7 days he was not quarantined....so he was happily mixing with his family members and maybe friends too.
If he has infected others...then it will be a NEVER ENDING STORY. Cant they quarantine the patient especially since he was having high fever etc?

Penang looks into reducing property prices to stimulate industry

The Penang Housing Department will look into reducing the price of houses and apartments as a "win-win" situation to help both buyers and developers overcome the effects of Covid-19 pandemic. State executive councillor on housing Jagdeep Singh Deo (above) said it is undeniable that developers too are badly affected by the movement control order (MCO) which has now been extended to May 12. Jagdeep said the state administration was also in the process of studying how to provide incentives to developers and buyers in order to stimulate the housing industry. "We have to balance out the situation, we will review the guidelines on how to further incentivise the delivery of affordable housing," Jagdeep said during a press conference in Komtar today. "We must realise that building of every unit of housing involves about 100 industries like raw materials, sand and bricks, steel, engineers, architects and interior designers among others. "We want to ensure that all industries can rise up to fight back against this Covid-19 pandemic," he added. Jagdeep said some developers may not be happy with the suggestion to lower the housing price. However, he said the proposal would help those who cannot sell their units due to high prices.

Meanwhile, Jagdeep said the state was also looking into property purchasing opportunities for foreigners. Currently, foreigners can purchase landed properties which are RM3 million or more on the island and RM1 million or more on the mainland. They can also purchase apartments at RM1 million (or more) on the island, or RM500,000 and above on the mainland. "We are reviewing the figures downwards to clear the overhang," Jagdeep said. Prior to the MCO, which was imposed on March 18, he said the overhang figures were at 31,092 unsold units. The highest overhang figures were found in Johor (5,470 units), Perlis (5,120), Selangor (4,822) and Penang (4,358). In January, the rent-to-own scheme for housing projects up to RM500,000 was already supposed to be rolled out across Malaysia to address the overhang issue. Jagdeep said a discussion with all stakeholders including the state exco members, housing agents, and chamber of commerce officials will be held before the price reduction policy is implemented. "The situation is such that even if we approve housing projects, developers cannot get financial support from banks, nor can they sell their properties as people cannot afford the units," Jagdeep said. "So, it is better, we all adapt to the new normal. We have to seriously look in price reduction. "We will rise from the ashes to fight Covid-19,

Lowering the threshold amount for foreigners would not solve the property overhang issue but will make it worse. The current pricing is already out of reach for Malaysians and lowering the threshold would not lower the price of the property but merely allowing foreign buyers into the lower bracket. This is clearly going to benefit the developers and the rich.

DAP now like MCA they cater to the rich developers not to the lower and middle income group. They are helping the developer to sell its overpriced houses/condos.
PDC after building Komtar more than 20 years ago has not issued strata titles. It is against the law.Why don't Jagdeep look into it?

Every house buyer wants a collapse of the property market. Allow them to enjoy prices of the last millennium.

However, many would also not want to continue to pay mortgages if a new house is priced much lower than the house they bought last year.

The result?
High defaults that may lead to a further strain on the banking system.
Some banks could even fail should this be the last straw.

Hence, a win win solution to prevent a collapse of the housing industry is necessary and prudent.

By the way, YB Jagdeep.
Are you still heartless to increase the assessment of properties in Penang?
We are literally dying.

Those developers make complain just because of two months not operating?

How about previous 10 years property market booming and all wear rolex and drive BMW Porsche?
How about 10 years of the poor suffer from can't even to own a flat and many paying heavy monthly installment?

They just don't want to bear loss and use their own saving to pay workers and debt.
I never seen more greedy than developer.

Never mind. Their buddies from the DAP will ensure they still have enough cash to keep them donating to the party

Heard from a retiree that he have a fair bit shares investment in KLSE. As a investor he hope to receive regular share dividend to sustain own living expenses. However, because of civid 19 outbreak, his investment value has dropped by 30% to 50% and now need to sell some shares at a big loss to have cash to live on. As for shares investment, it is also a kind of business venture with risk. As such you need to take loss to maintain your cash reserve during trying times. Will federal or state government extend helping hand to those long term share investors who have suffered losses, no right? Similarly for housing developers, they should sell their houses at below cost if there is a need to do so to improve cash flow. Housing developers should not lobby for government help during bad market while ignoring government's plead to set reasonable housing price during boom market. It is not right for government to assist housing developers while ignoring the fact that current house selling is still at a big margin to the developers.

Wow! Such a brilliant idea from another politician. All these overhang residential properties in Penang should be converted to dorms for foreign workers. It would provide better control and living environment for these workers. Lowering property prices will make it more affordable to employers to buy/rent these properties for their foreign workers. Penang will then become model state in Malaysia. haaaa haaaa

A suggestion to look into the authority requirements that add costs to the project. Eg. Land premium cost, development order costs...jps, iwk, syabas contributions, authority adding more and more demands that make the buildable footprint smaller hence making the price higher to compensate for smaller buildable area.. these authority requirements add a big percentage to the costs. Simply asking the developers to reduce price without asking the authorities to reduce their requirements will not succeed

Yes guys, The truth about the housing market is mainly about pricing & current economic outlook.. It has gone beyond the buyer's affordability and this is worsened by the current Covid-19 pandemics which has damages the economic fabrics of Malaysia & many other nations..causing hardship now.. It is foolish for most Malaysian to think about buying house over the next 6-12 months when most of them, including small businessmen are not even sure about holding on to their current jobs or whether their businesses can survive over the next 12 months. Many hotel businesses & smaller airlines have closed worldwide, including Malaysia and some more hotels, tour agencies and retailers are likely to follow suit if the Covid-19 situation persist! Now, the main issue on many citizen's thought is - How to survive this Covid-19 hardship?

Ex-deputy minister to be charged with spreading fake news

FUZIAH Salleh will be charged at the Johor Baru Sessions Court tomorrow for allegedly spreading fake news, the police said.

In a statement, they said the former deputy minister in the prime minister’s department will be charged at 8.30am over a video clip that was allegedly posted on her Facebook page after the movement control order (MCO) came into force.

Former deputy minister Fuziah Salleh will be charged at the Johor Bahru Sessions Court with allegedly spreading fake news tomorrow. According to a statement from the police today, the Kuantan MP will be charged at 8.30am with regard to a video clip uploaded on her Facebook account earlier this month. The posting depicted the Sultan Iskandar Building (CIQ Complex) in Johor Bahru turning chaotic after large crowds of Malaysians returned home from Singapore. The Facebook page later carried a note where the page's "administrator" apologised for posting an old video clip. Previously, federal CID director Huzir Mohamed said the case is being investigated under Section 500 and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for slander and causing public fear, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities or service. Police had also seized the PKR MP's mobile phone to facilitate investigations.

As usual the 'balancing act' by the govt agencies. When the agencies, police and AGC and the federal govt are pressured by Malaysians who are angered by the double standards of these departments in not taking immediate actions against such obvious violations, breaking laws, they have no choice but to charge them.....

Posted by 靓女 phoon phoon > 2020-04-28 16:32 | Report Abuse

So to counter such acts (not to anger their supporters) they have to throw in the opposition leaders as well. So the warning to the opposition leaders, be careful when the ruling ministers break laws - you are soon to be next to be nabbed even with the slightest violations.......

Posted by 靓女 phoon phoon > 2020-04-28 16:32 | Report Abuse

We see it all the time, now and before, when ruling govts leaders get arrested for undefendable offences the opposition leaders and the so-called 'troublesome' activists would also be arrested (even if their cases are weak)) together - allegedly one charge or another.....

Posted by 靓女 phoon phoon > 2020-04-28 16:33 | Report Abuse

We saw it during the previous BN's Mahathir's Operation Lallang. The trouble actually started MORE with the quarrel between Umno youth led by then chief Najib and MCA's deputy chief Lim Kim Sai. When the trouble seemed to escalate into racial problem only some small Umno, MCA minions were detained to arrest the worsening situation. However big fishes like DAP giants like Karpal Singh, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, Mat Sabu all from opposition (against BN) were detained also when they didn't play big part in it. Worse still a few Christian priests and and non-mainstream Muslim leaders joined in the detention at Kamunting.
