So just wait and see. The day is not done. And JackMa still around

Calvintaneg, not to offend u, can u pls QUOTE about DRBH only here? Congrtas on your past successeful trade with other stock, i think we are more concern with DRBH for now.

I seriously feel DrBh is about proton disposal & sourcing for partnership. Lets not focus on others!

Jack Ma will hv nothing to do with Proton ok

Wait a little while more and see whether Jackma got anything for Pos and Drb with regard to ECommerce?

As for Proton it will be the next on the agenda with Psa and Geely.

Today Pm Najib proposed 20 billion over expenditure for Malaysia. Anything in store for Drb defense tech?

All these and more as we await good news

formal launch of Alibaba's facility at the end of 2019. I don't think it will push the share price of DRB in short term.

Calvin to your opinion what will be the fair value of DRB

To use Ben Graham simple yardstick by NTA

Ben Graham advocate a discount of 30% to NTA as a margin of safety

So latest NAV is Rm3.29. After deducting 30% discount the safe price would be Rm2.30

So I think the fair value for DRB is Rm2.30. This is a simplistic way of valuing which cannot be applied to hubline.

Reason is this

DRB Assets (NTA) are backed by High Value Real Estates whereas hubline NAV consists of rotten ships of little value.

Good..line clear. It hard to make business with some china company..They treat you as a beggar n follow their term. There are a few china companies listed with klse now become toxic penny stock becauce of scandals n poor governance..

Don't be swayed by rumors.
Last time media reported that Saudi withdrew from Petronas Rapid jv.
Then Aramco pumped in Us$7 Billions for jv in RAPID.

So just hold tight and wait for Management full disclosure by Mid 2017.

Dongfeng is one of the major shareholders of PSA.

Posted by ArsenalBoyz > 2017-03-23 08:11 | Report Abuse

with psa proton gets a global giant, 3rd largest car producer with a major shareholder also from China, better than just a china partner alone. I suspect geely could be pulling out to save face as they probably know deal with PSA almost done. Well we will know if that correct or not very soon.

maybe not as manufacturing sector most crucial are economical scale of productions. the Tj Malim plant under utilization now will be put to great use if the plan with PSA does go ahead. great potential indeed.

if sell majority then there is good hope, otherwise proton will always be a sinkhole.

Opportunity to buy on weakness!

Why Drb is good

1. Pos already on Digital Ecommerce Platform.

2. Proton sales are attractive because Malaysia is the only car manufacturing in Asean. Thailand and Indonesia are mere assemblers. As such only Malaysia offers a low cost manufacturing base to 600 million consumers in Asean 10. Malaysia is the gateway tarrif free to enter these high growth nations.

3. Proton already got 1,272 acres of ready factory lands with all infrar in place. So their is less cost of expenditure. And local supporting industries with years of skill set acquired for 3 decades.

4. Govt rm28 billion defense expenditure another avenue to pump monies in drb defense tech companies.

5. Sale of Corwin Rm500 million asset in Spore is the precedent to unlocking more asset value for Drb. Drb still got 9 pieces of goldmine lands for disposal.

6. Sale of Proton Ertiga is brisk. And motor vehicle sales expected to increase this year.

7. Being GE14 Election Year expect more goodies for Glc linked stocks like Drb

(March 22): It has been confirmed that China’s Geely Automobile Holdings has withdrawn its bid to buy a controlling stake in Malaysian carmaker Proton.

According to South China Morning Post (SCMP), Geely’s president, An Conghui, did not elaborate on the reasons for the decision to withdraw the bid, but Li Shufu, its chairman, had said in an interview with Bloomberg earlier this month that the Malaysian company kept changing its mind.

On March 3, Li told Bloomberg: “They keep changing, today it’s this, tomorrow it’s that. They haven’t decided what they want.”

Geely, the owner of the Swedish Volvo brand, earlier on Wednesday reported better-than-expected earnings for 2016, as net profit surged by 126 per cent to 5.1 billion yuan (US$739 million).

It had been considered the favourite to acquire a controlling stake in Proton, Malaysia’s largest carmaker which also owns the Lotus sports car marque, though Europe’s second-largest carmaker Groupe PSA, which owns the Citroen, Peugeot, and DS brands, was also in the running, SCMP reported.

The successful bidder would get access to Proton’s Tanjung Malim assembly plant, which has an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles.

The owner of Proton would also qualify to ship vehicles tax-free among the 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Geely’s main aim was to expand its footprint into Southeast Asia, said Robin Zhu, a Hong Kong-based auto analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein, when the news of Geely’s withdrawal of interest in Proton broke. Last month it announced a 2017 sales target of 1 million vehicles, an increase of 34 per cent from last year. It has been actively seeking overseas acquisitions, Hong Kong-based executive director Lawrence Ang told SCMP earlier this month.

Proton is looking for a strategic foreign partner as part of conditions it agreed to when it received a loan of RM1.5 billion from the Malaysian government last year.

The firm, once one of the Malaysia’s flagship companies, has been struggling with losing market share in Malaysia while failing to compete overseas, SCMP reported.

Hope won't happen like last time between Proton & VW. Sticking point was VW must use "Approved Bumiputra Vendor" aka kronies rather than buying the best quality/price from the around the world. Deal fell apart at the very last minute.

geely windrawn its bidding is a big problem. now proton will not have bargain power to nego with PSA. will this eventually lead to no FSP secured?
