NTA is 1.40, with a reasonable privatization TP of 1.80-2.00, given that today's closing is 1.77.

I think better buy in YTL also, because if YTL power is privatised at 1.80, the biggest gainer is YTLP-WB(1.80-1.21=0.59) 4cts gain, 2nd is YTL
1.80-1.67=0.13)and the least gainer is YTL-Power(1.80-1.77=0.03). The above asumption is based on share swap of 1:1

Anyway I hope that FY will act more generously to profit all the shareholders of YTL, YTL-P and its warrant. Good luck to all ^v^

Posted by DrPitchard > 2013-07-25 20:16 | Report Abuse

YTL family are never known for their generosity. I have a friend working in YTL, working there for more than 10 years, never ever received bonus, not even a single cent.

But I still do hope that they privatise it for a good price. :-)

Posted by DrPitchard > 2013-07-25 20:19 | Report Abuse

I'm surprise that the warrant doesn't seem to factor in the 'time value of money'. If that is considered, it should be at least 0.70, based on the mother share price of 1.77.

Since YTLPower didn't payout dividend anymore, holding WB is better as it won't suffer value erosion as it no entitle to dividend, and WB enjoy both leverage advantage with gearing 3.4x and time value of 5year.

Franky, I wouldn't know. Depends on whenever the market U-turn from this minor correction. I personally expect it to recover a little in the next few days, but will continue going down, maybe up to 0.44-0.46 range. Just my personal gut feel.

I wondering why many research house failed to highlight earning potential for YTL Power new project: 1 Bestarinet and contract to supply chomebook !?

Kamalanathan: YTLC equipped for 1BestariNet project
Business & Markets 2013
Written by Fatin Rasyiqah Mustaza of theedgemalaysia.com

KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YTLC), a unit of YTL POWER INTERNATIONAL BHD [ ], is well equipped to undertake the 1BestariNet and Chromebook (laptop) supply projects, said Second Deputy Education Minister, P Kamalanathan.

“They have the ability to do the job. We have seen some of the work they have done and we are very impressed with it,” he told The Edge Financial Daily in an interview.

He said the bidding process for both projects was evaluated and monitored by the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu), the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) as well as the Securities Commission.

Kamalanathan said YTLC would not only provide its 4G Yes Internet service and virtual learning environment (VLE) and the Chromebooks, it will also erect its own transmission towers and build mobile labs as part of the contract.

He said that with a long-term project such as this, YTLC has more cost advantage and offers “a lot of value-add” for both projects as the company is able to provide various services in one bundle.

“Why would we ask two or three people to do the job when we can have only one person to do it?” he asked. Kamalanthan revealed that 19 companies had put in bids for the 1BestariNet project and only six were shortlisted. The companies shortlisted were Celcom Axiata Bhd, Maxis Bhd, Multimedia Synergy Corp Bhd, TELEKOM MALAYSIA BHD [ ] and TIME DOTCOM BHD [ ] as well as YTLC.

As for the supply of Chromebooks, Matrix One Solution Sdn Bhd, Mutiara Smart Computing Sdn Bhd, Trustwell Sdn Bhd, Bitara Induk Sdn Bhd and YTLC were the companies shortlisted for the job.

“The company chosen for the job was evaluated through its competency and capabilities in implementing the project at a very affordable rate,” said Kamalanathan.

The 1BestariNet contract, which was authorised by the Finance Ministry, is valued at RM663 million for a tenure of 2½ years. The project was implemented in January 2012. According to Kamalanathan, RM463 million has already been paid to YTLC.

As at May 31, 2013, the company had completed 1,503 transmission towers or customer premises equipment (CPE).

As for the supply of Chromebooks, each unit is priced at RM1,255 and comes with a three-year guarantee.

The project took off last month and will be implemented in phases. YTLC will be providing 116,399 units for 2,839 “mobile labs”.

These mobile labs, which are portable storage and charging trolleys equipped with WiFi, enable teachers to utilise the Chromebooks in their classrooms. Each mobile lab, costing about RM86,000, can hold 41 Chromebooks.

The Education Ministry is currently targeting 2,002 schools, mainly secondary schools, for the Chromebook project.

The 1BestariNet and Chromebook supply projects have of late come under heavy criticism from the opposition coalition.

The DAP MP for Bukit Bendera Zairil Khir Johari had, among other things, questioned the rationale for awarding “several projects worth RM9 billion” to YTLC.

Kamalanathan, however, refuted the figure, saying “I want to know where he [Zairil] got the RM9 billion figure. He did not calculate it the right way”.

Posted by DrPitchard > 2013-07-31 09:55 | Report Abuse

@hng33
I did highlight in my previous post that the contributions from the Telecommunications arm is low compared to their power generation sector. Thus, rather insignificant.

@miketyu
Telco is a tough business, and market is very saturated in Malaysia. An interesting fact, the penetration rate in Malaysia for mobile phones is 130%+ as of May 2013. This means, for every 100 people out there in the street, they cumulatively own 130 phones.
Look at all the top 3 telcos in Malaysia, facing challenging times. Digi's growth Year on Year has been flat, 0% change while Maxis is undergoing major reorganization structure as reported in newspapers due to decreasing profits in the past few years.

YTLPOWR's best bet for increased performance should come from their energy power generation sector.

I simply don't understand, why Maybank failed to highlight recent contract award to YTL Power to supply chromebook and Mobile lab to over 2000 secondary school !?

Mobile lab cost RM 86,000 each: 2,839 unit x RM 86,000 = RM 244m
Chromebooks cost RM 1,255 each: 116,399 units x RM 1,255 = RM 146m

Based on 3Q result: PBT for Power generation (151m: profit margin 18%); Utilities/Power Seraya (507m: profit margin 5.8%); water and sewerage (506m: profit margin 27%); Brondband/1besterinet (loss RM 193m).

The loss in broadband attributed to 17% of the total earning. According to YTL Power management, YTL broadband division is expect to breakeven by end of 2013. If materialize, YTLP without take into account potential future earning contribution from broadband, just alone breakeven already is earning enhancer by as much as 17% in EPS already.

As YTL Power majority of earning contribute by oversea concession, currency appreciation UK pound and Sing dollar against ringgit, will add more earning to YTL P bottom line.

The yes wimax itself may need few year to breakeven as its current 500,000user is only half way to reach critical mass at 1000,0000 active user to breakeven. As usual, Tan Seri didn't mention 1besterinet project...

Based on cumulative Q3 result, its broadband division record revenue 339m but post 193m loss. As 1besterinet tend to record in lump sum and according to Kamalanathan, deputy minister eduction II, total RM463 million has already been paid to YTLC. It will interesting to see whether this RM464m will be record in its broadband division in upcoming Q4 result. In addition, as mention in earlier post, YTLP also have awarded contract to start supply chromebook and Mobile lab to all 2000 secondary school in June, totally worth RM 390m, which should be reflected in another next quarter result.

Mobile lab cost RM 86,000 each: 2,839 unit x RM 86,000 = RM 244m
Chromebooks cost RM 1,255 each: 116,399 units x RM 1,255 = RM 146m

These hardware of course is not build by YTLP, but as sole supplier, the profit margin should at least 10-20%, as it come with maintenance warranty 3 year.

1besterinet is long term project, i think every 3 year, these hardware will need to replace with newer one. In addition, this is just the initial phase to supply to 2000 secondary school, there will be another 8000 primary school need to be cater and the amount is lucrative.
