"We see further tailwinds from easing cost factors, as solar module prices have dipped to US$0.17/W (from US$0.23/W in early 2023) and may further retrace to US$0.15/W. "Note that polysilicon prices have plunged by 56 per cent year-to-date and 80 per cent from the peak in August 2022 due to oversupply," it said in a note.

The firm was guided that the TPC will have minimal impact on YTL Power International Bhd as bulk of the generated volume (c.75- 80%) is sold to its retail arm, and the rest sold to SP Services (under a vesting contract scheme) and the wholesale pool.

Really difficult to move up 1 sen. Eat 5000, EPF give back you 5000. Eat another 5000, EPF give back to you another 5000.

@xiaochen, in the article you shared earlier, it says the average household water bill is around 448 pounds a year or 37.33 pounds a month.

And the proposed 20%-30% rise in water tariffs seems to be for a 5 year period from 2025 to 2030, not a one-year increase.

Wessex got an average rise of c.8% in water tariffs for FY2024, and got a lower rise of c.4% for FY2023. Actually a 8% rise in one year is exceptional, it only happens when the inflation hits double digit in the UK in 2022-2023.

So, a 30% rise for 5 years, i.e. 6% rise each year from 2025 will not be too excessive. It will add about 2.20 pounds a month to household water bill, and won't cause a dent.

@ChloeTai, right, it is hard for YTLP to jump fast now as EPF is still selling. As it had some 400 million shares last month and assuming it sells on average 4 million shares of YTLP a day, it may still have 320 million shares after 4 weeks of selling.

My estimate is that EPF's stake in YTLP will drop to below 200 million shares by mid August and it will be less aggressive in selling then.

On the contrary, EPF may just either stop selling or buy back on weakness given the company long term prospect and attractive dividend yield.

SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): Consumers in Singapore will pay more for electricity in the July-September quarter, with the tariff increasing by an average of 1.2 per cent from the previous quarter.

EPF last sold YTLP was on 30 May 2023. They have not been selling since then...

@ValueInvestor888, EPF ceased to be a substantial shareholder (stake <5%) in YTLPower on 30 May 2023 so it is not required to make Bursa announcement since then. So we don't know if it is selling anymore. But looking at the selling volume and patterns in YTLP shares, I think EPF is still selling consistently at 20% to 60% of daily volume.

CIMB analyst too lazy to change its earlier report on YTL despite getting updated figure from YTL Francis Yeoh that YTL to pay 9.5sen dividend instead of CIMB projection of just 6sen dividend, which in turn will lead increase projection in EPS and sum of part analysis. CIMB instead retain all its target price earlier and projection figure in the report, too lazy to redo analysis and upgrade target price for YTL.

YTL dividend 6sen, EPS 7.4sen with target price RM 1.28 should upgrade substantially for similar yield 4.7% and PE valuation, YTL should upgraded to minimum RM 2.00, dividend 9.5sen, EPS 16sen

@hng33, it is typical of local analysts being slow in doing a drastic upgrade, as it will slap their own face. To me it is okay for CIMB to retain its projected 6 sen dividend for FY2024 and FY2025 and tp of RM1.28. They will have to see substantial earnings improvement in coming quarters before they will convince themselves of what Tan Sri Francis Yeoh was saying on prospects of higher dividends.

In particular, I am excited to see how YTL is going to unlock value of its vast assets in coming years.

I only can accept CIMB target price for YTL RM 1.28 and YTLP RM 1.70 for CY 2023. Next year CY 2024, CIMB will need to upgrade again for YTL > RM 2.00 (EPS 16sen, dividend 9.5sen) and YTLP > RM 2.40 (EPS 28sen, dividend 15sen)

@dragon, yes you are right. Thanks for info as i did not follow closely this EPF. Just see some comments here and there EPF are selling. Look like YTL is more powerful lately...

To privatise ytlp, a listing condition must be 'breached', and given ytlp's share price lately, ytl has to offer cash (a lots) AND share swap.. But not impossible 😁

privatize cannot more value as mkt alreadys give discount or poor valuation to to conglomerate. It is better for keep YTLP as listed company purely for power and power related business...

Singapore’s electricity demand spiked amid heat wave in May

https://www.theonlinecitizen.com/2023/07/05/singapores-electricity-demand-spiked-amid-heat-wave-in-may/

Additionally, during periods of increased demand, EMA can direct generation units such as Open Cycle Gas Turbines to supply additional electricity to meet the system’s needs

(OCGT usage will further raise the USEP)

Tariffs hike increases from July to September
.............................................

Singapore residents will experience an electricity tariff hike of 12% between July and September 2023, as announced by the Energy Market Authority (EMA), the regulatory body responsible for the energy industry in Singapore.

This is the highest hike since the deregulation of the electricity market in 2001, and will come into effect shortly after the release of the EMA’s bi–annual Retail Electricity Price Report.

If Jordan gov only willing to pay 50% of the agree electricity traffic to YTL attarat power plant, the viability of power plant will be in doubt as cash flow will be unable to meet debt repayment schedule to bank in accord to financing agreement

Once power plant start commissioning, all interest cannot capitalize as cost and depreciation and amortization will incur in balance sheet.

Please be aware that the original Attarat article published by the Assoc Press on 5 July was authored by Isabel DeBre, since translated / revised as above. She has been with AP since 2012, based in Cairo. The 'tone' in the article is rather biased, against the Chinese co-developer and is seen as a BRI project to begin with, which is incorrect ...

Under 30-year power purchase deal, Jordan's state-run electricity company will have to buy electricity from the now effectively Chinese-led Attarat at an exorbitant rate that means the Jordanian government would lose $280 million annually, the treasury estimated. To cover the payments, Jordan would have to raise electricity prices for consumers by 17%.

In a nutshell. A signs an agreement with B.. then goes off and signs other energy agreements.. then come back to contest the agreement with B, accusing it of being unfair.. no prizes for guessing the outcome of this dispute. Bottom line is agreements signed has to be honored.

There is pros and cons for cross border electricity trade. The green electricity production cost is Malaysia, Loas is much lower than gas fuel production cost in Singapore. If Singapore gov to import huge green electricity, it will affect Singapore gas fuel power plant profit margin forward. Although most of YTL electricity now is contracted for 6 month- 2year, but if large amount of green energy is export to Singapore, it will affect Singapore wholesale energy price.. If wholesale energy price is much lower than contracted price, it will discourage end user to lock their electricity for long contract period, instead, will opt to source much cheaper power from wholesale market, especially if wholesale power market is flush with green energy supplier.

YTL seraya own 3000 MW gas power plant in singapore and currently enjoy attractive profit margin above 20%.
Since begins 1 July, Singapore wholesale market selling price have normalize, back to range 120-250 MWh compared to earlier selling price level more than 400 MWh and now also lower than contracted power traffic at 289 MWh. If Singapore continue import a lot more energy, it will eventually affect YTL seraya profit margin in future although if can offset partly through cross border trading fees.
