'Spot the pink tag' eyes another alleged quarantine flouter
KUALA LUMPUR: A certain "pink bracelet" is making many see red.
With the battle against Covid-19 far from over, those returning from overseas and told to undergo home quarantine are under the spotlight as some of them have been spotted outside.
The Health Ministry adopted the use of a "pink hospital tag" to be worn by those under home quarantine for 14 days.
This generally means that those still sporting the tag should not be out in public.
In the most recent "spot the pink tag game", a photograph of one man with one such tag on his wrist sitting at an eatery allegedly in Desa Sri Hartamas, here, has gone viral on social media.
A source told Harian Metro that as of yesterday, the police has yet to receive a report on the matter.
"The police will check on the photo that is being shared on social media.
"The public is advised to immediately channel such information to the police," the source remarked when contacted yesterday.
Govt made the right decision to quarantine them at hotels and quarantine centres. all because of these rotten apples spoil the bunch. also, identify them and charge them accordingly.
I think all shop owners or malls, restaurants etc should be well informed and aware about the ppl with pink tags too.. Instead just checking temp and writing in books. The person who is in charge of checking are mostly unaware. Kindly educate them well if not we will still these kinda morons on the loose sitting in shops and God knows where else
The tagged ones should be denied entry to any shops/malls. Quarantine means stay at home!! Now u pay the price lah, go bck to quarantine centres and stay there at yr own expense
Lack of preparation likely behind claim of Science, Maths in English failure – Manyin
KUCHING: Dewan Bahasa and Pustaka (DBP)’s claim of the failure of the Teaching and Learning of Science and Mathematics in English (PPSMI) could be due to a lack of preparation, opined Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong.
He said PPSMI in Sarawak, which commenced early this year, involved special training for the teachers involved.
“If it (PPSMI) was a failure, it was because there was no proper programme to prepare the teachers involved.
“Unlike the Sarawak PPSMI, which started in the beginning of this year, the teachers involved had been given a special programme conducted by qualified English lecturers from IPGs (teachers education institutes) throughout Malaysia,” he told thesundaypost.
Manyin said Sarawak PPSMI was to be monitored, but this had to be put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Ours is not a dual-programme but PPSMI (all primary schools except aided-Chinese primary schools), that Mathematics and Science are all taught in English, effective beginning of this year,” he said.
Meanwhile, Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee said he would need to read the research findings before commenting further as he could not just accept DBP board of directors chairpman Prof Datuk Dr Awang Sariyan’s conclusions.
Since when was DBP an expert in Education? They are only are experts in BM and producing shallow dictionaries. The elite among the PN cronies want to keep the people in perpetual ignorance so that they can control the masses like sheep. Educated masses are dangerous to them because they won’t buy into their dysfunctional logic and will question every ill conceived policy. DBP is now an instrument of the back door government’s propaganda machinery, intent on keeping the Rakyat ignorant.
You don’t use math and science to improve English proficiency of students but the English subject . But learning those in English will help them in their future immensely
You are spot on. They want Malaysians to remain ignorant so that they can be led by the nose like cattle. We've only started switching to teaching the two subjects so obviously the result are not expected to be very good as not only students but teachers are also finding their way to overcome the initial weakness. Trust politicians to run our education down.
Our students struggle to learn math and science in english and we give up on them? Way to go......... good government decision. What about those who cannot learn other subjects as well? The problem will go away by itself??? This is helping the Malaysian??
This issue is always brought up at crucial times. It will never change simply because the powers that control are not interested in upgrading the level of education in this country. Only those elite malays get to learn the queens english, but not the others. The reason is obvious. To be honest this situation will never change because there is no will or want to change. It is more of will to do not want to change and progress. One person stands out for this predicament and it is non other then TDM. He was Education minister and PM, who studied in English, but denied others from it. Reason to have a vision 2020 with the malays as supreme, but sadly that back fired and today we are in 2020 scratching our b...., still wondering what went wrong. How stupid can we be? Now Muhyiddin will be playing the same ball game, because he has no clue about what is going on. Similarly we too have no clue. One question, why are the Singapore malays and South African Malays so much better off? At the same time there are Malaysians who have managed very well too.
Is teaching Science and Mathematics in English truly a failure ? Or it is due to some unexplained hidden reason that was not revealed to the public ? It is perceived that the failure was entirely due to poor preparation and the lack of firm commitment on the part of the government. It is believed that there were not enough teachers who were sufficiently proficient in English to teach the subjects. For not being able to speak English adequately, they were not able to deliver their lessons effectively, leaving the students in the lurch. It was also known that Science and Mathematics teachers who normally delivered the subjects in Malay, were asked to use English to teach the subjects. These are the pertinent reasons which probably lead to the failure of the teaching of Science and Mathematics. As such, it is justifiable that the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English should be reinstated, with firm government commitment and adequate preparation. To supplement the lack of competent English teachers, government has to recruit foreign teachers, either from Singapore, Britain or US, on temporary basis. To raise Malaysia to a better level of technological progress, it has to place greater emphasis on the teaching of Science and Mathematics in schools. South Korea and Taiwan which are well advanced technologically, at one stage, were at the same level of development as Malaysia. Therefore if Malaysia, intends to raise its technological progress, it has to place greater emphasis on the study of Science and Mathematics, using English as the medium of instruction for the time being until Malay language is fully developed into a world class status and fit and adequate to be used to teach Science and Mathematics.
And the problem is PPSMI failed to meet its objective to increase the students' English proficiency skill because the teachers refused to teach the subjects in English. Yes. Refused. In at least one school I know a special teaching advisor was posted to the school to assist in the implementation of the PPSMI but the teachers refused to cooperate and the Principal just closed his eyes and said if they don't want to, I can't make them!
Everything done without meritocracy and having the best qualified people to do it will be a failure. How many generations more before this concept is understood?
It was a failure because, you have wrong teachers teaching. There are so many qualified Non Malay who speaks good English, train them as teacher. They can do wonders. Instead, you go to US, UK, India for thier teachers...???? Decisions made by the ministry to be blamed!!! Malays can be trained to do well in English if we good teachers!
Guiss ,,,, It is not surprising that the two past Education Ministers who advocated teaching BM over English are actually fighting each other now after messing up.
It is not that it cannot be done. Those who are given the jobs to do it are not serious and are more interested in politics. They are not the best, but mere mediocre. If China, whose population hardly speak English long ago, when our standard of English was excellent, could now produce students speaking and writing good English. Put the right people, regardless of race, in charge we can do it.
Now Awang Sariyan and Dewan Bahasa and Pustaka need to convince the world to switch from using English to BM. On another note. Since Malaysia switched from an English medium to a BM medium of education in the late 70's; the standard of our Malaysian education has been on a steady downward spiral.
Why was there no such problems in the late 70s when teaching in English in all secondary schools was changed to teaching in Bahasa Malaysia? All (or most) of the teachers came from English medium schools, graduated from a University with medium of instruction in English and were happily teaching in English all the subjects (except Malay Language) up to Sixth form. Asking them to teach in Bahasa Malaysia was not a failure then.
As long as DBP is around teaching any subject in English will be a failure because the Malays just refuse to learn a second language. On top of that DBP an others gloat that Bahasa Melayu is the best langusge in the WORLD and one should NOT LEARN other languages. Thus they, the politicians can keep the Malays suppressed all the time. Why then does the PM jet up and down to Singapore for his medical treatmen when all students there opt to study in English. All those Doctors in Singapore, having studied in English, are better qualified than our DUMBOS who cant even do an appendectomy.
Let everything in BM is a success. When out in society see whether or not they are competitive enough to find a highly paid job. Don't blame others for being unemployed, being discriminated and so on.Other people have to master 3 languages and even trilingual in Maths and science. So sad cant even master a second language to learn Maths and science. Forever a failure lol.
Failure is the mother of success. Do the policymakers learn from the failure? If they are persistent and persevere in PPSMI I am confident by now it should be a success.
