@moncmondo87, I have taken a look at the daily trading report from EMC. I see that TPC only started to apply from period No. 34 onwards on Monday 14th August 2023. USEP hit the max of S$4,500/MWh in period 26 and continued hitting above S$1,000/MWh until TPC came in period 34.

I remember there is some mechanism for TPC to come in, at certain lag of 24 periods or 48 periods after the forecast demand is higher than forecast supply. But I cannot find the TPC paper from EMA website anymore.

Anyway, it is still possible for USEP to hit S$4,500/MWh for some periods up to 24 or 48 before TPC comes in.

Whenever USEP hits S$4,500/MWh, you know that the supply is very tight.

Posted by moncmondo87 > 2023-08-16 23:40 | Report Abuse

dragon328, Thanks for the more rigorous analysis.. Yes, the continued tightening of MW supply is the corollary of a rising frequency of raised USEPs within the 48 periods each day in the coming quarters, leading to more clamour for the accelerated development of the 600MWs ...

Markv572421, Not to worry... 4:45pm price closed at 1-69, then back up to 1-71 after 4:50pm, due to significant buying interest; and final close at 1-71.. Lots of profit-taking today, by the short-sighted and not-so-less-brave; but 4QFY23 results out late next week, so stay the course ...

all China banks just ordered yesterday to sell everything to buy Yuan

China GDP had dropped suddenly way more than 10%
The global economic contraction will be driven by China coz ruling party CPM is concerned about China splintering into many political states just like Russia.

Global disposal of assets to support Homeland China is now in progress.

The great news is YTLPower building a 4500MW plant in Rawang with KDEB as reported in the Edge Weekly
and in the Star
Power stocks surge as renewable energy takes centrestage
https://www.thestar.com.my/business/business-news/2023/08/19/power-stocks-surge-as-renewable-energy-takes-centrestage

“I think their financial numbers are expected to do well and while the stocks have gone up, they still have further upside potential. For the YTL group, the market expects it to report a good set of numbers soon,” Lau says.“TNB also benefits from the higher electric-vehicle adoption locally and has seen increased foreign purchases.”

Analysts have recently been upgrading their estimates on YTL Power, for example, and the stock, along with its parent company YTL Corp Bhd, have been near the top of the most active trades on Bursa Malaysia in recent weeks.

Kenanga Research says in a report that it expects YTL Power’s fourth-quarter net profit to rise by up to 12% from the previous consecutive quarter to between RM585mil and RM590mil.

“YTL Power’s share price has more than doubled in the y-t-d period, thanks to a nine-time year-on-year jump in its nine-month core profit to RM955.4mil,” the research firm says in a note to clients.

Apart from its strong organic growth, the group is also exposed to the data centre sector, which had garnered quite a fair bit of investor attention due to the recent foreign direct investment inflows in data centres locally.

These data centres, which are part of the new economy, are powered by RE, which also helps to solidify YTL’s ESG credentials.

YTL Power is developing the YTL Green Data Centre Park in Kulai, Johor, which will be the first data centre campus in Malaysia that will be co-powered by on-site renewable solar energy.

The group says its Data Centre Park will be powered by up to 500 megawatt (MW) of RE through a solar power-generating facility on the site.

For TNB, the company has also been at the focus of investor attention of late, especially with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) that was announced end-July.

The incumbent power group would be hosting the Energy Transition Conference in Kuala Lumpur at the end of this month.

Under the first phase of the NETR, TNB is a major beneficiary and this will accelerate its investments into energy transitioning to diversify earnings base while realising commitment towards elevating its ESG profile.

The group is also one of the major winners in the recently announced Corporate Green Power Programme, securing a total of 90MW capacity via three different applications.

MIDF Research, which raised its call on the utilities sector to a “buy” from “neutral” in May, says the country could benefit from regional energy trade following the lifting in the RE export ban.

It notes that exporting to Singapore is a low-hanging fruit for the country as the former is targeting some four gigawatts of electricity imports by 2035.

This would provide domestic RE players the opportunity for capacity supply and to capitalise on higher green tariffs in Singapore.

Yoong is positive on the prospects of exporting RE to Singapore, noting that profit margins would be good.

“The lifting of RE export ban is further good news for RE producers. A back-of-envelope calculation indicates a 100% gross profit margin for RE exported to Singapore.

“This is based on Malaysia’s average regulated household electricity tariff of 40 sen per kilowatt hour (kWh) before rebate and wheeling (transmission) charges of US$0.0228/kWh (10 sen/kWh) as compared to Singapore’s S$0.297/kWh (99 sen/kWh),” he says.

Granted that the negotiated wholesale price is less, he expects the estimated gross profit margin will be around 20% to 30%.

“TNB and YTL Power are expected to be the major beneficiaries of this lifting of RE export ban,” he says.

Yoong adds that there are other opportunities to position the country to attract more international investments in green energy.

“It is imperative that Bursa Malaysia and the Finance Ministry work closely to package our RE sector as the hub of South-East Asia,” he says.

不过,目前仍未确定会不会卖。等季报。

The analysts r conservative, wid power seraya earnings, ytlpower stock price is adi valued at rm 2 without accounting for 2nd interim dividends ...rest u figure out urself...it is worthwhile to hold this stock long term...i wun sell this cash cow.

I think this WTE project will have a net power output closer to 58MW as reported by The Edge than to the figure of 132MW stated in the news link below.

Anyway this is a good development for YTL Power as it will add a new stream of recurring income over next 30 years or so and good for MCement/YTL as it will get fly ash from the WTE project as raw materials for cement production. This WTE project has long been mooted with EIA studies already done and hence I don't expect much hurdle to its implementation. Such WTE projects are very common now and have proven very effective in dealing with the ever increasing municipal wastes with limited environmental impact to surrounding areas. Some good examples are those modern WTE plants in Singapore such as the one in Tuas south that burns 2,400 ton/day of wastes and Senoko WTE plant that burns 2,100 tons/day of wastes.
